다양한 사건과 사고에 담긴 쟁점을 다루는 JTBC 시사교양 프로그램 ‘사건 반장’에서 14일 방송된 찜닭 배달 이야기가 아프다.
11월 8일 오후 경기도 시흥지역에서 한 여성 배달원이 엘리베이터가 고장이 난 29층 아파트 계단을 걸어 올라가 주문한 음식(찜닭)을 배달하였다.
배달 후 14층을 걸어 내려가던 중 주문자 전화가 걸려와 배달 약속한 50분이 넘었으니 주문을 취소한다며 음식을 회수해 가라는 것이었다. 배달원은 14층에서 다시 29층까지 올라가 찜닭을 회수해 땀과 한숨에 젖어 가게로 돌아온 이야기였다.
방송내용을 정리하면 찜닭 가게는 지난 8일 6시 30분 무렵 배달 앱으로 음식을 주문받으며 배달 앱 의무사항인 배달 시간을 약 50분이라고 안내하였다. 이후 15~20분 만에 조리된 음식을 배달원이 주문한 아파트에 도착하고 보니 엘리베이터가 고장이었다. 주문자는 배달 앱 요청 사항이나 전화로 엘리베이터 고장 사실을 알리지 않았다. 배달원은 다른 배달 문제로 직접 올라가기 어렵다고 생각하여 주문자에게 전화하였지만, 받지 않았다.
이에 배달원은 옆 아파트에 주문 음식을 배달하면서 고장이 난 엘리베이터 아파트 주문자와 통화가 되었다. 주문자는 (우리 아들도 조금 전에 걸어서 올라왔다. 여기까지 오는 것도 배달원 책임이다)라고 말하였다.
이에 배달원은 29층까지 걸어 올라가 배달하였다. 그러나 배달을 마치고 14층 정도 내려가는 즈음에 주문자가 전화하여 찜닭을 회수해 가라며 환불을 요구한 것이다. 이유는 약속한 배달 시간 50분을 지키지 않았다는 것이다.
주문자의 (우리 아들도 조금 전에 걸어서 올라왔다. 여기까지 오는 것도 배달원 책임이다)라고 말한 내용은 곱게 생각해서 엘리베이터가 고장이니 어쩔 수 없지 않으냐는 의미일 수 있지만, 착잡한 마음을 매만지게 한다.
여성 배달원이 29층의 계단을 걸어 올라 배달하고 14층을 내려가다 다시 올라가 거부한 음식을 가지고 걸어 내려온 시간은 아마 25분은 족히 걸렸을 것이다.
씁쓸한 느낌을 매만지며 어제(17일) 동아일보에 실린 김순덕 대기자의 윤석열의 ‘무심한 사람들(careless people) 마지막 장 (이상민 장관, ‘문 정권의 조국’처럼 될 텐가) 라는 행간에서 다음과 같은 글이 크게 눈에 들어왔다.
(아무리 지위가 높고 돈이 많아도 미국에선 세상과 타인에 대한 배려와 책임, 감성이 없으면 상류계층에 못 낀다. 미국서 9년간 미연방 공무원으로 일한 김명훈이 ‘상류의 탄생’에 쓴 말이다)
김순덕 대기자가 인용한 글의 저자 김명훈은 코넬대에서 영문학을 컬럼비아 예술대학원에서 순수예술 석사과정을 거친 후 중앙일보 뉴욕지사에서 근무하다 9년간 미국 연방 공무원으로 일하였다. 그가 2016년 출판한 저서 (상류의 탄생)은 오랜 미국 생활을 통하여 상류의 진정한 가치와 정신에 대한 바른 의식의 헤아림이었다.
저자는 책에서 상류란 지위와 재력의 크기가 아닌 사회의 공중도덕과 같은 의식으로 교황이거나 대통령은 물론 최대 재벌이라 하여도 그 인격이 상류의 가치를 지니고 있어야 한다고 설파하였다. 이와 같은 상류의 가치는 사회적 약자에 대한 배려와 자신의 신분에 맞는 사회적 책임에서 얻게 된다는 것이다.
김순덕 대기자가 인용한 (세상과 타인에 대한 배려와 책임, 감성이 없으면 상류계층에 못 낀다)는 말은 평범한 서민과 분명하게 차별되는 신분을 향한 질타와 비판이지만, 이는 엄밀하게 모든 세상 사람이 가져야 할 의식을 말하는 것으로 이와 같은 정신적 가치를 갖지 못하면 상류(존경)의 자격이 없다는 의미이다.
찜닭 배달원이 29층 계단을 아프게 오르내린 힘겨운 숨소리에 우리 모두 가슴에 귀를 열어 세상을 돌아볼 일이다. artwww@naver.com

Steamed chicken delivery and which column

The story of the steamed chicken delivery, which was broadcast on the 14th in the JTBC current affairs program 'Incident Chief', which deals with issues in various incidents and accidents, is painful.
On the afternoon of November 8, in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, a female delivery worker walked up the stairs of an apartment on the 29th floor where the elevator was out of order and delivered the ordered food (steamed chicken).
After she delivered, while she was walking down the 14th floor, she received a phone call from the orderer, and she said that the delivery was over 50 minutes, so she was canceling the order, and she said to collect the food. The delivery man went up to the 29th floor from the 14th floor to retrieve the steamed chicken and returned to the store wet with sweat and sighs.
Summarizing the contents of the broadcast, the steamed chicken shop received food orders through the delivery app at around 6:30 on the 8th, and informed that the delivery time, which is mandatory for the delivery app, was about 50 minutes. Then, after 15 to 20 minutes, when the delivery man arrived at the apartment where he ordered the cooked food, the elevator was out of order. The orderer did not inform the delivery app request or phone call that the elevator was broken. The delivery person thought that it was difficult to go up directly to another delivery problem, so she called the orderer, but she did not answer.
As the delivery man delivered the ordered food to the apartment next to her, she got on the phone with the orderer of the broken elevator apartment. The orderer said (My son also came up on foot a little while ago. It is the delivery man's responsibility to come this far).
The delivery man then walked up to the 29th floor and delivered her. However, when she finished the delivery and went down about 14 floors, the orderer called and asked for a refund, saying to collect the steamed chicken. The reason is that she did not keep the promised delivery time of 50 minutes.
What the orderer said (my son also walked up a little while ago. It is the responsibility of the delivery man to come all the way here) may mean that the elevator is out of order and there is nothing we can do about it.
It probably took 25 minutes for the female delivery person to walk up the stairs on the 29th floor, deliver the food, go down the 14th floor, go up again, and bring the rejected food.
Touching a bitter feeling, in the last chapter of 'Careless People' (Will it become like Minister Lee Sang-min's 'Motherland of the Moon Regime') by Seok-Yeol Yun, a waiter for Soon-Duk Kim, published in the Dong-A Ilbo yesterday (17th), the following article was written. caught my eye
(No matter how high your status and money is, in the United States, you cannot join the upper class without consideration, responsibility, and sensitivity for the world and others. These are the words Kim Myung-hoon, who worked as a federal civil servant for nine years in the United States, wrote in “The Birth of the Upper Class”)
Kim Myung-hun, the author of the article quoted by Soon-deok Kim, studied English literature at Cornell University and received a master's degree in fine arts at Columbia University for the Arts. The book he published in 2016 (The Birth of Sangryu) was a correct understanding of the true value and spirit of Sangryu throughout his long American life.
In the book, the author preached that the upper class is not the size of status and financial power, but the public morality of society, and that even the pope, president, or even the largest conglomerate should have the value of the upper class. Such high-class values are obtained from consideration for the socially underprivileged and social responsibility appropriate to one's status.
The words quoted by Kim Soon-deok (You cannot fit into the upper class if you do not have consideration for the world and others, responsibility and sensitivity) are criticism and criticism directed at a status that is clearly differentiated from ordinary people, but this is strictly a must for all people in the world. It means that if you do not have this kind of spiritual value, you do not deserve the upper class (respect).
