브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점은 20일 보도자료를 통해 순직·공상 소방관 가족에게 지원금 2억5000만원을 전달했다고 밝혔다.
이번에 전달된 지원금은 소방청에서 추천한 순직 및 공상 소방관 가족 74명에게 사용된다. 순직 소방관 미성년 자녀 46명에게는 ‘파랑새 장학금’이 지원되며, 공상 소방관 자녀 28명에겐 생활 환경 개선 및 심리치료 지원금이 전달된다.
현대백화점은 2008년부터 매년 순직·공상 소방관 가족에게 장학금과 생계비 등을 지원해 오고 있다. 올해 지원금까지 포함해 15년간 총 686명에게 21억5000만원을 전달했다.
현대백화점 관계자는 “타인의 생명을 살리기 위해 자신을 희생한 소방관분들의 숭고한 정신을 기리기 위해 매년 유가족에게 지원금을 전달하고 있다”며 “작은 정성이 순직 소방관 유가족들에게 조금이나마 보탬이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편, 현대백화점그룹은 소외계층 아동들의 복지 향상을 지원하는 ‘파랑새 지원 프로젝트’를 운영하고 있다. 건강한 성장‧재능 육성‧의료 및 재활 등 3대 핵심 분야에 대한 대상자를 선정해 저소득층 육상 유망주 운동용품 구매비 및 대회 참가비 지원, 난치병 환아 치료비 지원 등 총 20개 사업을 진행하고 있다.
