[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 캐나다의 ‘우드 디자인 앤 빌딩 어워드’에 건축물 설계자인 한양대학교 김재경 교수가 ‘물빛나루쉼터’를 ‘빛의 루’라는 이름으로 참여해 최우수상인 ‘아너’를 수상했다고 3일 밝혔다.
‘우드 디자인 앤 빌딩 어워드’는 목재 설계 및 건축 분야에서 우수한 건축가를 기념하는 상으로 캐나다목재위원회가 주관하는 세계적으로 권위가 있는 시상식이다.
2022~2023년 제39회차 시상에는 25개국 181개 작품이 참가했으며 그 중 24개의 작품이 수상했다.
건축가 김재경 교수가 설계한 ‘빛의 루’는 대한민국 대표로 최고의 작품상인 ‘아너’ 수상작 6개 작품 중 하나로 선정되는 영광을 안았다.

‘물빛나루쉼터’는 2022년 3월 준공됐으며 촉석루의 지붕 곡선과 기둥 및 다포 형식을 현대적으로 재해석해 전통을 계승하면서도 현대적으로 완성한 목조 건축물이다.
특히 수백 개의 나무조각이 빽빽하게 맞물려 이루어진 내부의 6개 나무기둥은 보는 이로 해금 감탄이 절로 나오게 만든다.
전면이 유리로 되어 있는 ‘물빛나루쉼터’는 밤낮으로 아름다운 경관을 뽐내는 남강과 어우러져 진주의 새로운 관광명소가 됐다.
