Will there be a new attraction in Daejeon?
“If a creator like a film director tries to change the work by commenting on it or meddling in the process, the right conclusion cannot be reached. In particular, there are many cases like that in public institutions, so it is very difficult to work together.”
A director who participated in a local event with filmmakers said he couldn't understand public officials trying to drive creative things to majority opinion.
Park Yong-wan, director of the Daejeon Film Center, who was also present, planned the World Whale Festival in Daecheongho Lake with the motif of the legend of the five brothers of the dragon king's whale in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, but was frustrated by the criticism that it was an outlandish idea. He emphasized that he could do it.
If a festival event or business is to be held and a majority of experts' opinions are gathered through a meeting, the business is told not to be carried out. This is because an event or business that is known to the majority cannot be successful because it is not already universal and creative. Rather, it is said that local governments that boldly select a small number of creative and brilliant ideas can attract a huge number of visitors with a small budget.
Not long ago, the Spinal Cord Disabled Association signed a business agreement for a tunnel between Daejeon and Okcheon, which closed the old highway. Hwang Gyeong-ah, a member of the Daejeon City Council, and the Spinal Cord Disabled Association, who have been putting their heart and soul into the business of promoting employment for the vulnerable, including the disabled, and leading the local tourism business, have been working with various ideas, but they called experts to get a better conclusion. I wanted to try something else.
In the process, we chose the CEO of Stay Interview, a young businessman who constantly bumps into the field, reads young sensibilities, has already achieved great success with coffee and expands the scope of various businesses, and decided to fully trust him and accept all business ideas.
During the process of presenting opinions with CEO Joo-Young Park several times during the Stay Interview, he collected opinions without painting over the ideas or giving direction, and his on-site experience and brilliant ideas made the tunnel a new attraction. I did.
There may be budget and administrative problems, but I was sure that a good conclusion would come from the association's respect for the opinions of creators and that it would become a new attraction in Daejeon and Okcheon. We are setting a very good precedent for respecting the director's creativity.
The idea currently being coordinated is the concept of moving by kayak by directing the tunnel as a mysterious cave image. In the tunnel, you can drink coffee and take pictures under the classic lighting, and when you go up to the observatory above the tunnel, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful Daecheongho Lake and the unique garden.
Daecheongho Obaekri-gil, which is made up of natural viewpoints, is an essential course, and like Seomjingang Hwagae Market, a local food market for harmony between Daejeon and Chungbuk, and jointly developed tourism resources with the theme of literature in connection with Jeong Ji-yong Literary Museum to make it a bigger attraction. We expect that we will be able to make a camping zone and a unique cabin house as a model for trying new tourism directions by making it a city to stay in.
Rep. Hwang Kyung-ah said, “We will expand the scope of business that goes beyond prejudice in creative businesses such as service, culture, and arts, rather than simply promoting employment of the disabled who are mechanically put into production facilities.” I hope that Daejeon will be transformed into a must-visit tourist city by creating a unique attraction that satisfies the sensibility of young people in the field of festivals and tourism in Daejeon.” Sitting in a wheelchair, leading a lot of businesses and thinking about it, you can feel the emotion.
Daejeon has many tourist resources, but it does not have any resources that give a strong impact, so it is a city where visitors do not stay and pass through, and the image of a boring city cannot be erased. These days, it is an era where even one sculpture becomes a hot place. The abandoned tunnel can also become a landmark in Daejeon with the help of experts and the support of the local community.
The Employment Agency for the Disabled, Daejeon Metropolitan City, Chungcheongbuk-do, Daejeon Tourism Corporation, and Korea Expressway Corporation are all interested and deeply affectionate in a new attempt to create a sanctuary for youth, supporting various event projects and business expenses for tourism development, or partially participating together. If it is built, there are high expectations that it will be transformed into a more large-scale cultural tourism city.
The future doesn't just come, it's being created. Depending on how hard you try, you may or may not come across as desirable. If we respect creators and strive to realize the imagination of young sensibility, it will be an opportunity to transform into the most attractive cultural tourism city in the central region.
