하늘은 애써 푸르렀다. 시인 김남조 선생님의 조문을 마치고 돌아오는 길 하늘 저편을 깊숙하게 바라보았다.
2011년 12월 이근배 시인 등단 50주년을 맞아 ‘사노라면’이라는 시화전을 기획하였다. 전시 오픈에 오신 김남조 선생님이 인사동 골목 한정식에서 저녁 식사를 마치고 돌아가시는 길 거동이 편치 않으셨던 선생님의 손을 꼭 잡고 얼어붙은 골목길 한참을 걸어 큰길에 기다리시는 천양희 시인 차에 모셔드렸다. 12월 한겨울에 난로처럼 따뜻하셨던 선생님 손길에 놀랐던 기억이 고스란히 가슴에 있다.
다음 해 2012년 7월 대한민국 대표 시인이 손수 쓰는 육필 시 전을 기획하였을 때 선생님은 “요리조리 연습하느라 보내준 종이를 버렸다”며 특별히 인쇄한 원고용지를 더 보내 달라고 하시더니 4편의 시를 정성스럽게 써 주셨다.
천여 편의 시를 남기신 많은 시 중에 선생님 등단 51주년을 맞은 2004년 열다섯 번째 시집 '영혼과 가슴'을 출판하였을 때 실린 ‘우편물’이라는 시를 가슴에서 매만진다.

내가 못 가는 곳에도/ 나의 책은 우표 붙이고 간다/ 책갈피 첫머리/ 저편 이의 이름을 쓰곤/ 시린 손을 잠시 댄다/ 가서 안부 전하고/ 호젓이 그 옆에 오래 머물라고/ 그가 외로울 땐/ 그 더욱 옆에 꼭 있으라고/ 마음 깊은 당부도/ 안 보이게 함께 간다/
‘천 편의 시가 살아있는 영원한 숨결이십니다.’라는 마음의 글을 올렸다.
선생님! 손길에 담긴 따뜻한 기운을 잊지 않고 세상에 단 한 번이라도 따뜻한 사람이 되려 노력하렵니다. 부디 편안한 세상에 영면하시기를 기원합니다.

The sky was blue with all its might. On the way back from the poet Kim Nam-jo's condolences, I looked deeply at the far side of the sky.
In December 2011, to mark the 50th anniversary of poet Lee Geun-bae's debut, an exhibition of poetry called "Sano Ramen" was planned. Kim Nam-jo, who came to the exhibition, held the hand of the teacher who was uncomfortable on his way back from dinner at the Korean traditional ceremony in Insa-dong Alley, walked for a long time in the frozen alley and took him to the car of poet Chun Yang-hee waiting on the main road. I remember being surprised by the teacher's touch, which was as warm as a stove in mid-winter in December.
In July 2012, when a representative Korean poet planned a handwritten handwritten poem, the teacher asked him to send more specially printed manuscript papers, saying, "I threw away the paper I sent to practice cooking." He wrote four poems carefully.
Among the many poems that have left over a thousand poems, I touch a poem called "Mail" in my heart when I published my 15th collection of poems, "Soul and Heart," in 2004, which marked the 51st anniversary of my teacher's debut.

Teacher! I won't forget the warm energy in my hands and try to be a warm person even once in the world. I hope you will sleep in a comfortable world.
