해당 노선 3곳은 지난 해 11월 운행에 나선 경주역~안강·외동 간 급행 2개 노선의 후속 사업으로 읍면지역 주민들의 이동편의를 위해 마련됐다.
이곳은 그간 경주역을 오가는 직행노선이 없어 KTX나 SRT 이용에 많은 불편을 겪어 왔다.
이에 경주시는 주민 불편 해소 차원에서 시내버스 운영사와 협의를 통해 시민 편의 증진을 위해 노선을 신설키로 확정했다.
이 과정에서 경주역과 읍면지역을 오가는 시간을 단축하기 위해 신설 노선을 최소 정거장만 정차하는 급행버스로 운영키로 결정했다. 시는 이용객 추이 등 모니터링한 후 운행 확대를 검토할 방침이다.
