올해 12년째를 맞이한 LCK는 국내외에서 많은 팬과 시청자를 보유한 e스포츠 리그로 경주시는 LCK/한국e스포츠협회가 주최·주관하는 ‘2024 LCK 서머 결승전 개최도시’ 공모에 최종 선정됐다
LCK 서머 결승전은 지난해 약 3만 명이 넘는 관람객이 방문했으며, 국내·외 온라인 생중계 시청자 수가 1일 기준, 약 400만 명 정도로 팬들의 관심이 상당히 높은 편이다.
시는 지난 1월에 1차 후보도시로 선정돼 유치 제안서를 제출했으며, 2월 2차 현장심사를 거쳐 유치가 확정됐다. 이는 지난해 대전시에 이어 비수도권 지역에서는 3번째로 개최된다.
경주시는 풍부한 숙박시설, 뛰어난 교통 편의성을 비롯한 유네스코 세계문화유산과 관광자원, 대규모 행사개최 경험 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다.
대회 개최장소인 경주실내체육관은 도심에 위치해 있어 뛰어난 접근성은 물론 선수단 및 관계자 숙박지원, 다양한 문화공연 제공 등의 지원도 크게 작용했다.
LCK 서머 결승전은 매년 스프링전과 서머전 총 2회 개최되며, 스프링전은 4월 서울에서 개최됐다. 서머 결승전은 경주실내체육관에서 9월 7일부터 8일까지 2일간 개최된다.
여기에 타임캡슐공원 인근에서는 거대한 돔 안에 대형 스크린을 설치해 9월 6일부터 9일까지 3일간 다채로운 볼거리와 먹거리, 즐길 거리로 구성된 팬 페스타(FAN FESTA)도 펼쳐진다.
경주시는 대회 개최에 앞서 관련기관과 안전, 교통질서 등의 부문에 긴밀한 협조체계를 구축해 역대 가장 성공적인 대회가 개최될 수 있도록 총력을 다 할 예정이다.
시는 이번 대회 유치로 e스포츠 저변 확대를 통한 관련 산업 기반 구축 계기뿐만 아니라 MZ 세대를 포함한 3만여 관광객 유입 등 지역경제 활성화에 크게 기여 할 것으로 기대한다.

‘LCK Summer Finals’ will be held in Gyeongju in September
