한수원에 따르면 황주호 한수원 사장은 이날 탄소중립 해법으로, SMR을 활용한 ‘스마트 넷제로 시티(SSNC, Smart SMR Net zero City)’를 제안했다.
SSNC는 혁신형 SMR을 중심으로 태양광, 풍력 등 신재생에너지와의 연계를 통해 친환경 무탄소 에너지를 경제적이고 안정적으로 공급하는 도시 형태다.
황 사장은 이날 “SMR이 주 에너지원이 될 SSNC는 탄소중립이 실현되는 도시임은 물론, SSNC에서는 에너지 소비 비용이 최대 30%까지 대폭 절감될 것으로 기대된다”고 강조했다.
같은 날 한수원은 경주시와 SMR 국가산업단지 조성 및 SSNC 개발을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다. 협약을 통해 두 기관은 경주시 문무대왕면 동경주IC 인근에 조성되는 SMR 국가산업단지 조성과 최적의 SSNC 사업모델 개발에 적극 협력하기로 했다.
황주호 한수원 사장은 “도시의 탄소중립 달성은 길고 험난한 글로벌 탄소중립달성의 시발점이 될 것”이라며, “한수원은 탄소중립을 향한 글로벌 여정의 선두에서 미래세대를 위한 지속 가능한 지구를 만들고자 한다”라고 말했다.
