이번 감사패 수여식은 최영기 의원이 지난 4월 제281회 경주시의회 임시회에서 대표발의한 ‘경주시 종합장사공원 경주하늘마루 설치 및 운영 조례 일부개정조례안’에서 경주시의 종합장사공원인 하늘마루의 사용료 감면 대상에 연구용으로 기증한 시신을 추가한 것에 따른 감사의 의미로 열리게 됐다.

조례안의 개정으로 경주시의 시신 기증자에게 고귀한 헌신에 대한 적절한 예우와 지원을 제공할 수 있게 되었으며, 나아가 시신 기증이 더욱 활성화되어 의학교육의 발전에 이바지하는 긍정적인 효과를 기대할 수 있게 됐다.

최영기 의원은 “시신 기증이라는 숭고하면서도 쉽지 않은 결정을 통해 의학교육 발전에 공헌해주시는 기증자와 그 가족분들에게 무한한 감사의 말씀을 드린다.”면서, “앞으로도 기증자뿐만 아니라 의인 등 예우를 받아 마땅한 사람들에 대한 다양한 제도적 장치 마련에 박차를 가하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
