충청지역에선 처음으로 시각장애인에 대한 선입견과 편견을 없애기 위한 지난14일 캠페인이 열렸다.
(사)대전시각장애인연협회 동구지회(회장 정일)는 이날 충북시각장애인연협회 청주시지회(회장 한진수)와 함께 ‘시각장애인 체험 캠페인’을 진행했다.
이번 캠페인은 지역을 넘어 장애인에 대한 편견을 없애기 위한 취지에서 마련됐다.
이날 캠페인은 장애인의날을 기념해 열린 복지대회 일환으로 곰두리체육관 앞 부스에서 운영됐으며 비장애인이 직접 안대를 끼고 지팡이를 짚어보며 다니는 식으로 구성됐다.
시각장애인들은 길을 걷거나 장애물, 계단 등 주변을 탐색할 때 흰 지팡이를 밑으로 내려 좌,우를 움직여 다닌다. 하지만 시각장애인 옆에는 활동지원사가 필요하다.
정일 회장에 이어 박미순 사무국장, 이동학o조정호 자문위원, 유은수 운영위원은 캠페인에서 활동지원사 역할을 맡으며 비장애인들이 직접 안대를 끼면 옆에서 팔을 잡으며 지팡이 짚는 방법을 설명하기도 했다.
길을 걷는 중간에는 점자블록도 눈에 띈다. 시각장애인은 걸어갈 때 주로 발바닥이나 지팡이에서 전달되는 촉감으로 길을 찾아갈 수 있도록 붙인 시설을 점자블록이라고 하는데 주로 선형 블록, 점형 블록으로 나뉜다.

캠페인 이외에도 열린 복지대회에서는 한진수 청주시지회 축사에 이어 시각장애인 축사 장기자랑, 추첨권 행사 등으로 진행돼 큰 호응을 얻었다.
향후 대전시각장애인연협회 동구지회와 충북시각장애인협회 청주시지회는 협업하며 ‘시각장애인 캠페인’을 진행할 예정이다.
또 비장애인들과 어울러질 수 있고 시각장애인에 대한 편견을 없애기 위해 대전시각장애인 온소리예술단 활동을 오고 가며 활동할 계획이다.
정일 대전시각장애인연협회 동구지회 회장은 “비장애인들이 우리 같은 시각장애인들의 어려움을 인식하고 경험했던 과정이 고맙고 뜻깊은 하루였다”며 “잠시나마 캠페인을 통해서 앞으로 시각장애인을 바라볼 때 불쌍하다는 생각 대신 따뜻한 관심과 배려를 전해해줬으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
