충남 부여군(군수 박정현)이 지난 18일 대구광역시 소재 한국섬유개발연구원 본원에서 충남분원 유치를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 유치는 부여의 바이오산업 생태계 발전에 중요한 전환점이 될 것으로 전망되며, 군은 2027년까지 규암면 아름마을 내 총사업비 130억 원을 투입해 연면적 약 2,840제곱미터 규모로 연구원 부지를 조성할 계획이다.
협약은 지난 4월 산업통상자원부의 '바이오매스 기반 비건레더 개발 및 실증 클러스터 구축' 사업에 부여군이 선정되면서 이뤄졌다.
충남분원은 비건 섬유 소재 개발 및 시제품 제작을 위한 실증 시험대 임무를 수행하고 기업들의 기술 상용화와 세계 시장 진출을 지원할 예정이다.

또한, 부여군의 자원을 최대한 활용함으로써 환경적 부담을 줄이고, 새로운 고부가가치 제품을 만들어내는 데 중점을 두고 있다.
특히, 연구원은 부여군에서 발생하는 버섯 폐배지와 같은 농업 폐기물을 고부가가치 비건레더 소재로 재활용하여 환경 문제 해결과 자원 순환경제 활성화에 기여할 계획이다.
박정현 부여군수는 “오늘 협약을 통해 역사와 자연, 그리고 미래 혁신이 공존하는 부여를 만드는 기반을 마련하게 되었다”라며 "단순히 연구소 설립을 넘어, 부여군이 친환경 미래 산업의 선도적인 역할을 하게 되는 중요한 기회가 될 것"이라고 했다.
이어 "지난 11월 6일 부여 일반산업단지와 은산2산업단지가 이차전지 관련 기회발전특구로 최종 선정된 만큼, 이 기회를 적극 활용해 관련 후속 사업을 발굴하고 기업 유치로 이어질 수 있도록 한국섬유개발연구원과 지속해서 협력 하겠다"고 전했다.
한편, 부여군은 지난해 양송이버섯 5,146톤을 생산하며 전국 점유율 57.2%를 기록한 양송이버섯 주생산지이다. 지역 특성을 바탕으로 버섯을 활용한 바이오 신산업 연구거점을 마련하고자 해당 사업을 추진해 왔다.
