올해 치러진 세종낙화축제가 제18회 피너클 어워드(Pinnacle Awards) 한국대회에서 야간혁신프로그램 부문 은상을 수상했다.
피너클 어워드 한국대회는 국내 축제 중 높은 완성도와 창의성, 경쟁력을 지닌 축제를 발굴·시상해 전 세계적인 축제로의 성장을 지원하는 권위 있는 시상식으로, 세계축제협회 한국지부가 주관한다.
21일 세종시에 따르면 낙화(落火)는 낙화봉에 불을 붙여 불꽃이 떨어지는 모양과 소리를 함께 즐기는 전통놀이로, 세종불교낙화법은 지난 2월 세종시 무형문화유산으로 지정됐다.
세종시는 낙화축제를 지역대표 축제로 육성하기 위해 불교낙화법보존회와 공동으로 지난 5월 세종중앙공원에서 ‘2024 세종낙화축제’를 개최했다.
올해는 우천과 강풍으로 당초 계획보다 하루 순연해 개최했음에도 완성도 높은 공연과 볼거리로 8만여 명의 관람객이 운집하며 성공적으로 축제를 마무리했다.
특히 지난해와 달리 나무에 낙화봉을 걸어 불꽃이 흩날리는 환상적인 모습을 연출하며 낙화 본연의 아름다움과 특별한 감동을 선사한 것도 높은 평가를 받았다.
시는 지난해 야간크리에이티브 프로그램 부문 금상 수상에 이어 2년 연속 수상을 계기로 세종낙화축제만의 매력과 우수성을 적극 홍보하고, 국제적인 경쟁력을 갖춘 축제로 발전시켜 나갈 계획이다.
안기은 관광진흥과장은 “2년 연속 수상으로 ‘세종낙화축제’의 우수성을 더욱 널리 알리는 계기가 됐다”며 “앞으로도 세종낙화축제가 전 국민을 넘어 전 세계인이 찾는 축제로 발전할 수 있도록 더욱 노력해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.
한편 지난 20여 년간 피너클 어워드 한국대회와 아시아대회를 주관해온 세계축제협회 한국지부(IFEA World)는 미국 본부에서 개최하는 월드대회를 통해 한국과 아시아의 축제를 세계에 알리는 데 기여하고 있다.

This year’s Sejong Nakhwa Festival won the Silver Award in the Nighttime Innovation Program Category at the 18th Pinnacle Awards Korea.
