보령시(시장 김동일)가 한국철도공사와 손 잡고, 지역 경제 활성화 및 지방 소멸 위기 극복에 나섰다.
시는 한국철도공사 본사에서 27일 ‘인구감소지역 철도관광 활성화 업무협약’을 체결했으며 김동일 보령시장, 정정래 한국철도공사 부사장, 강욱 국토교통부 철도운영과장 등 30여 명이 참석했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 철도와의 연계를 통한 지역 경기 부양, 관광 및 생활인구 활성화를 위해 마련됐으며, ▲ 보령시 연계 관광상품 구성·운영 ▲ 철도역 및 주요 관광지 간 연계교통체계 구축 ▲ 관광 인프라 확대 지원 등을 주요 골자로 하고 있다.
특히 내년부터 한국철도공사는 철도이용 자유여행객을 대상으로 보령시 주요 관광지에 부착된 QR코드 인증 시 열차운임 50% 할인 쿠폰을 지급하기로 했다.
또한, 철도공사와 협약을 맺은 88개 여행사를 통해 '보령시 연계 여행상품'을 출시해 철도운임 50%를 할인 지원할 예정이다.
