브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘 국회 행정안전위원 소속 의원 일동은 22일 더불어민주당의 '여론조사 검증 및 제도 개선 특별위원회' 출범에 대해 강력히 비판하며 "국민의 정치적 의사 표현을 억압하려는 반민주적 행태"라고 규정했다.
국민의힘은 현행법상 여론조사에 문제가 있다면 중앙선거여론조사심의위원회를 통해 이의를 제기할 수 있음에도 불구하고, 민주당이 당내 기구를 통해 여론조사를 직접 검증하겠다는 것은 중립성을 훼손하고 여론조사 기관에 압력을 가하려는 시도로 해석된다고 주장했다.
이들 의원은 "민주당이 이러한 행보를 보이는 이유로 최근 여론조사 결과를 지적했다"라며 "민주당이 주도한 대통령 탄핵 추진과 구속영장 청구 등 강경한 정치적 행보에 대한 국민의 부정적 반응이 잇따라 여론조사로 드러나자, 이를 무력화하려는 의도로 이번 특위를 구성했다"고 설명했다.
이어 "여론조사 결과를 바탕으로 원인을 분석하고 대책을 마련해야 할 시점에, 오히려 여론조사와 싸우려 하고 있다"면서 "잘 나오면 정당한 여론조사이고, 잘 안 나오면 의구심을 제기하는 것이 민주당의 이중적 태도"라고 지적했다.
또한 민주당이 언론과 국민의 표현의 자유를 억압하려는 시도를 반복하고 있다고 강조하며 "징벌적 손해배상제도 도입, 가짜뉴스 유포자 고발, 국민의 사적 대화 검열 시도 등 과거 행태를 생각해보면 이번 여론조사 검증 시도 역시 국민의 목소리를 틀어막으려는 연장선에 있다"고 주장했다.
