최상목 대통령 권한대행 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관이 11일 미국 트럼프 행정부의 철강·알루미늄 25% 관세 부과 결정 관련해 "철강·알루미늄 관세에 대해 그간 준비한 조치계획에 따라 대응해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.
최 권한대행은 이날 오후 서울 종로구 정부서울정사에서 열린 '대외경제현안간담회' 모두 발언에서 "개별 업체별 상황·타국 철강 제품과의 상대적 경쟁력에 따라 상이할순 있으나 미 관세정책 변화에 대한 우려가 현실화되고 있는 상황"이라며 "우리 주력 수출 품목 반도체·자동차에 대한 관세부과 가능성뿐만 아닌 상호 관세 부과도 예고되고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
앞서 도널드 트럼프 미 대통령은 10일(현지시간) 워싱턴DC 백악관 집무실에서 무역확장법 232조에 따른 국가안보를 이유로 철강·알루미늄에 대한 25% 관세를 되살리는 포고문에 서명한 가운데 오는 3월 12일부터 적용 예정이다. 트럼프 대통령은 이날 포고문에 서명하며 "어떠한 예외·면제도 없다"고 했다.

또 "조만간 정부 협조하에 20대 그룹 CEO로 구성된 경제사절단도 꾸려 방미길에 오르게 된다"며 "추가적 품목에 대한 관세 부과·상호 관세 등 앞으로 있을 수 있는 미 행정부의 추가적 조치에 대해서도 면밀히 모니터링하고 대응해 나가도록 하겠다"고 밝혔다.
