노컷뉴스는 지난 3월13일자 “[단독]신천지, 20대 대선 '선거 개입 조직' 신설…전국 12지파 책임자 임명” 제목의 기사에서 “이단 신천지가 20대 대선 직전 특정 정당 가입과 특정 후보 지지를 위한 전국 조직을 만들었다는 사실이 확인됐다. CBS가 입수한 2022년 2월 2일 자 신천지 텔레그램 대화방 내용을 살펴보면 '총회에서 '총회 외교정책부장'이 임명됨에 따라 12지파에도 외교정책부장을 임명한다'는 내용의 지시가 하달됐다'면서 “신천지는 2022년 1월 28일 자로 신천지 본부 총무를 총회 외교정책부장으로 임명하는 인사 조치를 단행했다. 입수한 텔레그램 공지는 그 후속 조치에 따라 전국 12지파별 외교정책부장을 임명한다는 지시를 내린 것으로 보인다. 외교부정책부장 업무는 '신천지 비공개 대외협력 업무 및 각종 대외활동으로 명시했고, 자격은 '신천지 신앙이 확고한 30세 이상 남자'로 제한했다”고, 보도했다.
이어 “텔레그램 대화방 내용을 제보한 신천지 간부 탈퇴자는 '2022년에 신설된 외교정책부는 신천지 2인자인 당시 총회 총무를 중심으로 20대 대선에 맞춰 위해 신설한 조직이라고 보면 된다'고 말했다. 간부 탈퇴자는 이어 '원래 신천지는 대외적인 활동을 섭외부라는 곳에서 총괄했는데 대선에 맞춰 별도로 선거 개입을 하기위해 외교정책부를 만들고, 지역 책임자들을 선임한 것'이라고 덧붙였다”고 전했다.
또한 “신천지가 20대 대선을 앞두고 갑작스레 외교정책부를 신설하고, 윤석열 후보와 신천지 이만희 교주 측근 이모 씨가 접촉한 사실까지 드러나면서 신천지의 대선 개입 의혹이 더 구체적으로 드러나고 있는 모양새”라고 덧붙였다.
신천지예수교회 총회본부측 “무혐의로 결론난 사안” 반론

이와 관련, 신천지예수교회 총회본부측은 3월14일 “CBS 보도의 허위 왜곡 보도에 대한 신천지예수교회 입장” 제하의 보도자료에서, 노컷뉴스 보도내용에 대해 반론을 폈다.
신천지예수교회 총회본부측은 이 보도자료에서 “최근 CBS에서 윤석열 대통령과 신천지 간 연루 의혹을 제기하는 보도를 내보냈다. 이는 명백한 허위사실이며, 객관적 증거도 없이 특정인들의 개인적 추측과 악의적 해석만을 짜깁기한 왜곡 보도”라고 전제하고 “더욱 심각한 것은 이미 수사기관을 통해 무혐의로 결론난 사안임에도 불구하고, 특정 정당이 이러한 왜곡 보도를 사실 검증 없이 무분별하게 정치적으로 활용하면서 정치공세에 나선 점이다. 이미 사실무근으로 밝혀진 의혹을 재차 제기하고, 이를 정쟁의 도구로 삼는 행태는 건전한 민주주의를 해치는 것이다. 이러한 허위보도와 정치적 악용에 대해 분명히 밝힌다”고, 반박했다.
