세종시가 자율주행 대중교통 확대에 속도를 내고 있다.
이를 위해 세종시는 22일부터 간선급행버스체계(BRT) 광역 자율주행버스를 1대 증차해 총 5대를 운행한다고 밝혔다. 이번 조치는 시민들의 자율주행에 대한 신뢰와 이용 편의를 높이기 위한 것으로, 자율주행 교통체계의 실질적 확산을 도모하고 있다.
현재 운행 중인 자율주행버스는 기존 A2 노선 2대, A4 노선 2대에서 A2 노선을 1대 추가해 A2는 3대, A4는 2대 체제로 운영된다.
이로써 A2 노선(오송역∼세종정부청사∼세종버스터미널∼반석역, 총 32.2km)은 평일 기준 왕복 4회에서 6회로 운행 횟수가 늘어나 이용객 편의성이 한층 개선될 전망이다.
자율주행버스의 승하차는 기존과 동일하게 오송역, 해밀동, 도담동, 정부청사 북·남측, 새롬동, 나성동, 세종터미널(지하·지상), 한솔동, 반석역 등에서 가능하다.
요금은 1400원에서 2000원 사이로 일반 BRT 노선과 동일하며, 교통카드 등 기존 결제 방식이 그대로 적용된다.
세종시는 자율주행 기술 도입에 있어 선도적인 행보를 보여왔다. 2022년부터 국토교통부와 충청권 지자체 협력으로 전국 최초의 광역 자율주행버스 노선을 세종과 인근 지역에 구축했다.
