편안합니다.

그래서 감사합니다.

이제 더 깊은 평안함 속에서 하루하루를 살아갈 수 있기를 기대합니다.

가족과 이웃과 함께 일상을 즐길 수 있는 시간이 올 줄 몰랐습니다, 늘 불안하고 답답하고 분노로 가득 차 뉴스 채널을 돌려 버렸던 어제를 편안함으로 덮었습니다.

취임하신 이후 전임 장관들과 진지하고 구체적인 국정 현안을 논의하는 국무회의, 고개를 끄떡이게 하는 모든 인사 임명, 그리고 민생경제를 최우선으로 챙기며 실천 방안과 대안을 만든 일이 감동스러웠습니다. 세계 정상 지도자들을 만나 당당한 외교의 모습을 보며 부끄럽지 않았습니다.

필경사처럼 받아쓰기하던 기자들이 스스로 질문을 다듬고 고민하게 되었습니다. 시간을 나누어 전국을 돌며 지역 현안을 듣고 토론하고 설명하는 모습을 이어 오셨고, 불과 한 달 사이에 이 모든 변화가 일어났습니다.

그동안 어둡고 습하고, 암울해서 보고 싶지 않았던 정치였습니다. 하지만 지금은 장마 후, 비개인 날 오후처럼 조금은 상큼하게 느껴지기도 하면서 조금은 더 나은 상황의 기대를 품게 됩니다.

무소불위의 권력을 가지고 무섭게 세상을 도륙하며 질리게 했던 검찰의 소름 끼치는 권력의 폭주는, 이제 술 깬 날 주정뱅이의 아침처럼 국민이 안심할 수 있는 권력 조정의 기대를 품을 수 있게 되어 편안합니다.

이 나라에 필요한 지도자는 화려하게 빛나는 사람이 아니라 밑바닥 서민들의 삶부터 모든 것을 겪어보고 느끼고 살아와, 국민의 아픔과 어려움을 알고 이해하고 공감해 줄 수 있는 동네 형처럼 편안한 지도자이었던 것을 이제 느끼고 있습니다.

정말 이정도로 잘할 수 있는 것을 기대하지 않았습니다. 모든 것 포용하는 말의 품격, 예리한 시선과 온화하고 자신감 있는 태도, 지치지 않은 발걸음, 모든 시간들을 국민을 위하는 생각으로 채우는 지도자를 지금 보고 있습니다.

이 나라 대통령이 되어 주셔서 감사드립니다. 그동안 무너졌던 나라를 바로 세우는 일이라면 우리 국민도 희생을 감수하고 지혜를 모으고 힘을 보태는 일에 기꺼이 나서겠습니다.

새로운 미래를 만들어 가야 하는 지금, 좋은 인재와 훌륭한 경험을 가진 사람들이 있어 나라를 바로 세우는 일에 많이 참여하고 있는 것으로 알고 있습니다.

대전에도 행정의 정통 엘리트이자 훌륭한 경험을 가진 인물이 있어 인재 풀을 펼칠 볼 때 함께 고려해 주시기를 바랍니다.

열린 우리당으로 정치 입문한 권선택은 행정고시 출신으로 대전시 행정부시장, 노무현 대통령 시절 청와대 인사수석실, 국회의원, 대전광역시장을 경험하였습니다. 그래서 행정을 아는 정치인입니다.

그는 ‘경청傾聽’을 제일 덕목으로 신념을 삼아 일해 왔습니다. 그는 듣습니다. 귀로만 듣는 것이 아니라 마음으로 듣고, 작은 목소리에도 귀 기울이는 민심을 향한 겸손하고 섬세한 접근을 합니다.

정치적으로 억울한 역풍 속에서도 그는 7년간 묵묵히 기다려 왔습니다.

그 기간 중 서울 디지털 전기전자공학을 전공 졸업하였고, 도시 사각지대 어려운 이웃들과 소통하며 민생을 살펴왔습니다.

특사 복권 후 신중하게 정치 일선에 복귀하지 않았고 지난 대통령 선거 과정에 정부혁신제도개선위원장을 맡아 대전 시민들의 동참은 물론, 전, 현직 출신 공직자들의 전폭적인지지 선언을 끌어내며 역할을 수행하였습니다.

화려한 언변보다 실천을, 이념보다 국민을 우선시하는 사람, 중앙과 지역을 모두 이해하고 통합의 비전을 가진 사람, 그리고 위기 속에서 행정의 해답을 찾아낼 줄 아는 사람입니다.

그래서 그의 행정과 정치 경험, 어려운 시기에 갈고닦은 지혜와 능력이 늘 아깝고 안타까웠는데 이제 “국민주권 정부‘ 새로운 미래를 만들어 가며 열린 국정을 운영하시는데 디딤돌로 쓰여 지기를 진심으로 바랍니다.

멀리 논산 연산의 작은 마을에서 농업인으로 새로운 인생을 살아가다가 새롭게 바뀌는 나라의 모습을 보며 안도의 희망을 품고 있는 촌로村老가 국정의 작은 도움이 되기를 바라며 감히 조언을 올립니다.
