[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 가야고분군의 유네스코 세계유산 등재(2023년 9월)를 실현시킨 영남과 호남 지역의 끈끈한 협력이 결실을 맺었다.
유산의 체계적인 통합 보존과 활용을 전담할 '재단법인 가야고분군 세계유산관리재단'이 13일 김해 국립가야역사문화센터에서 공식 출범했다.
이날 출범식에 참석한 박완수 경남도지사는 재단 출범의 역사적 의미를 강조하며 "가야의 문화유산을 보존하고 후손들에게 이어가는 것은 우리의 책임이자 의무"라고 말했다.
박 지사는 기념사를 통해 "가야고분군이 세계유산으로 등재되고 관리재단이 출범하게 된 것은 가야 역사가 과거에 사라진 역사가 아니라 '인류 역사'로 인정받았다는 점에서 매우 뜻깊다"고 평가했다.
이어 "가야의 흔적을 발굴하고 계승하는 노력이 이번 재단 출범을 통해 새로운 역사 인식의 계기가 되길 바란다"며, "재단이 가야의 역사적 가치를 재조명하고 확산하는 '컨트롤 타워' 역할을 수행해 줄 것"을 주문했다.
이번 재단 설립은 경남, 경북, 전북 3개 광역지자체와 김해, 함안, 합천, 고성, 창녕, 고령, 남원 등 7개 기초지자체가 초광역적으로 합의하여 추진된 결과물이다. 지자체별로 산재했던 고분군의 보존 관리 체계의 편차를 줄이고, 일관성 있는 보존 및 활용을 위한 전담 기구의 필요성에서 비롯됐다.
재단은 앞으로 ▲가야고분군의 효율적 통합 관리를 최우선 과제로 삼는다. 또한 ▲유네스코 정기보고서 작성, ▲국내외 홍보 및 교류, ▲역사문화관광 콘텐츠 개발 등 가야고분군 역사문화권 전반을 체계적으로 관리하며 보편적 가치를 국내외에 널리 확산하는 데 주력한다.
전문교육, 학술 심포지엄, 주민 참여 프로그램 등 다양한 사업을 통해 재단은 가야고분군을 '과거의 유적'이 아닌 '지속가능한 현재의 문화 자산'으로 만들어나갈 계획이다.
