브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 삼성전자가 15일 ‘흰지팡이의 날’을 맞아 시각장애인과 저시력자를 위한 AI 가전 매뉴얼 ‘모두를 위한 사용법’을 공개했다.
흰지팡이의 날은 1980년 세계시각장애인연합회(World Blind Union)가 시각장애인들의 권리를 보호하고 사회적 관심을 이끌어내기 위해 제정한 날이다.
삼성전자는 시각장애인이 기존 매뉴얼을 통해 가전 사용에 필요한 정보를 습득하기 어렵다는 점에 착안, 올해 초 삼성전자 스타트업 육성 프로그램 ‘C랩 아웃사이드’에 선정된 시각보조앱 개발 스타트업 투아트(TUAT)와 협업해 ‘모두를 위한 사용법’ 매뉴얼을 개발했다.
새로운 매뉴얼은 삼성닷컴과 AI기반 시각보조앱 ‘설리번 플러스’에서 확인할 수 있다.
매뉴얼은 화면 읽기 기능을 제공하며, 하단에 위치한 재생버튼을 통해 음성으로 설명을 들을 수 있다. 또한, 제품 외관과 조작부 위치 등에 대해 눈앞에 그리듯 상세하게 설명하고 음성 제어나 접근성 기능 사용 방법도 자세히 전달한다.시각장애인을 위한 촉각 스티커 부착 위치도 안내해 접근성도 높였다.
일례로, ‘비스포크 AI 콤보’ 세탁건조기의 먼지필터를 청소해야 하는 경우, 기존 매뉴얼은 해당 부품의 상세한 위치나 조작법이 그림으로 표현됐지만, ‘모두를 위한 사용법’ 매뉴얼은 ‘세탁기 전면부 상단 오른쪽 모서리에 먼지필터 도어가 있습니다’와 같이 상세한 위치를 안내한다.
부품의 외관에 대해서도 ‘손바닥보다 조금 큰 사이즈의 문이 먼지필터 도어입니다’와 같이 보다 쉽게 제품을 인지할 수 있는 자세한 설명을 담았다.
음성인식 Q&A 기능을 탑재하고 목차와 자주 묻는 질문 등을 포함해 필요한 정보를 빠르게 찾을 수 있도록 했다.
삼성전자는 이번 신규 매뉴얼이 시각장애인의 실사용 환경에 적합한지 검증하기 위해 한국접근성평가연구원의 전문 리서치와 삼성화재 안내견 학교, 시각장애인 임직원의 자문을 받아 종합적으로 반영했다.
매뉴얼은 △2024년형과 2025년형 비스포크 AI 콤보 세탁건조기 △인피니트 AI 콤보 세탁건조기 △비스포크 AI 원바디 세탁기∙건조기 △비스포크 AI 세탁기와 비스포크 AI 건조기 등 6개 제품에 대해 우선 제공된다.
한국어 버전을 시작으로, 향후 스페인어∙영어∙프랑스어를 비롯한 20개 언어로 확대될 예정이다.
한편, 삼성전자는 다양한 접근성 기능을 통해 시각장애인의 사용 편의성을 높이고 있다. 7형∙9형 터치스크린을 탑재한 제품에는 음성 안내 기능을 적용해 시각장애인이 쉽게 기기를 설정할 수 있도록 했고, 고대비∙흑백∙색상반전∙화면 확대 등 접근성 기능을 적용했다.
지난해에는 투아트와 함께 설리번 플러스 앱에 가전제품에 부착된 QR 코드를 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 돕는 ‘가전 QR 모드’를 추가한 바 있다.
삼성전자 DA사업부 양혜순 부사장은 “모든 사용자가 삼성 제품을 불편함 없이 사용할 수 있도록 접근성을 지속적으로 개선해 나갈 것”이라며 “앞으로도 혁신 기술과 사회적 가치를 결합해 더 나은 사용자 경험을 제공하겠다”고 말했다.

The new manual is available on Samsung.com and the AI-powered visual assistance app, "Sullivan Plus."
The manual features a screen reader, and audio explanations can be heard by clicking the play button at the bottom. Furthermore, the manual provides detailed explanations of the product's exterior and control panel locations, along with detailed instructions on how to use voice control and accessibility features. Tactile stickers for the visually impaired are also provided to enhance accessibility.
For example, while the existing manual illustrated the detailed location and operation of the dust filter on the "Bespoke AI Combo" washer/dryer, the "How to Use for Everyone" manual provides detailed instructions, such as, "The dust filter door is located in the upper right corner of the front of the washer."
Detailed descriptions of component appearances are also provided, such as, "The door slightly larger than the palm of your hand is the dust filter door," to facilitate easier product recognition.

Samsung Electronics comprehensively incorporated expert research from the Korea Institute for Accessibility Evaluation, consultation with the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Guide Dog School, and employees with visual impairments to ensure the new manual is suitable for the actual use of visually impaired users.
The manual is initially available for six products: the 2024 and 2025 Bespoke AI Combo Washer and Dryer, the Infinite AI Combo Washer and Dryer, the Bespoke AI One-Body Washer and Dryer, and the Bespoke AI Washer and Bespoke AI Dryer.
Starting with the Korean version, the manual will expand to 20 languages, including Spanish, English, and French.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is enhancing usability for the visually impaired through various accessibility features.
