부천시에 따르면, ‘부천의 책’은 한 해 동안 부천시민이 함께 읽고 토론하며 책을 매개로 소통하는 대표 독서진흥 프로그램으로 시민의 독서문화 확산과 공동체 공감대 형성을 목표로 2005년부터 추진해 오고 있다.
부천시는 지난 10월부터 시민과 기관을 통해 추천받은 총 482종 687권의 도서를 대상으로 사서 회의와 전문가 중심의 ‘부천의 책 도서선정위원회’를 구성해 분야별 1차 후보 도서 5권씩을 선정했다.
이후 온오프라인 시민 선호도 조사를 통해 최종 후보 2권씩을 압축하고, 시민 선정단과 위원회가 함께한 토론회를 거쳐 최종 도서 3권을 확정했다.
