부평구에 따르면, 부평시장역 스마트도서관은 24시간 무인 대출·반납 시스템을 갖춘 시설이다. 지하철 이용객과 지역주민이 일상에서 편리하게 책을 접할 수 있도록 조성된 생활밀착형 독서 공간이기도 하다.
특히 이번에 열린 도서관은 지난 2023년 개관한 산곡역 스마트도서관에 이어 부평구에서 두 번째로 운영되는 역사형 스마트도서관이다.
기존 부평구립도서관과의 연계를 통해 구민의 독서 기회를 확대하고 지역 독서문화 확산에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
