보편적 삶이 그러하듯이 어린 시절부터 기쁜 날보다 슬프고 힘든 날이 많았다. 그래서 비에 적셔진 우울함을 공감할 시를 더 많이 읽었고 진눈깨비 질척이는 저녁 무렵 침울한 러시아 음악에 깊숙이 함께 가라앉곤 했었다.
살다 보면 마음이 불쑥 내려앉는 날이 있다. 남들에겐 기회가 열리는 것 같은데 나에게만 문이 닫힌 듯 한 기분? 소셜 미디어의 한 줄 소식도 주변의 작은 성취도 때로는 나를 흔드는 기준이 되기도 한다.
셰익스피어의 소네트 29는 그 지점에서 시작한다.
“내 처지 부끄러워
헛된 한숨 지어보고
남의 복을 시기하여
혼자 슬퍼하다가도
너를 문득 생각하면
노고지리 되는고야
첫 새벽 하늘을 나는 새
