이재명 대통령이 18일 호르무즈 해협 항행 자유를 위한 국제 연대 필요성을 강조하면서 다국적 방어 임무 참여와 함께 상황에 따른 외교·군사적 행동 검토 등을 공식화했다.
19일 청와대에 따르면 이 대통령은 17일(현지시간) 밤 프랑스 파리 엘리제궁에서 열린 프랑스·영국 주도 '호르무즈 해협 해상 항행 자유 이니셔티브' 화상 회의에 참석해 해협 안정을 위한 한국 역할을 표명하면서 이같이 밝혔다.
강유정 수석대변인은 이날 밤 정상회의 후 서면 브리핑에서 “향후 정부는 자유로운 국제 통항 원칙·글로벌 공급망 안정을 위한 국제사회 노력에 주도적 동참해 국민 일상이 안정될 수 있도록 최선 노력을 다해나갈 것"이라고 전했다.
프랑스·영국이 주도한 이날 회의엔 미국을 제외한 채 총 49개국·2개 국제기구가 참석한 가운데 중국·일본은 비정상급 인물이 참여했고 아무 발언도 하지 않았다.
강 대변인은 "이 대통령이 대한민국이 호르무즈 해협을 통해 원유 약 70%를 수입하는 핵심 이해 당사국임을 강조하고, 해협 내 항행 자유 보장을 위한 실질 기여를 하겠다는 강력한 의지를 밝혔다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "이 대통령은 호르무즈 해협 봉쇄로 전 세계 에너지·금융·산업·식량안보 전반이 흔들리는 상황에 우려를 표시하면서 교착 상태 해소를 위한 국제사회 협력을 제안했다"고 전했다.
