[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시가 전국 최초로 고중량물 AMR(자율이동로봇)의 성능을 검증하고 제작을 지원하는 시험평가센터를 김해 명동일반산단 내에 착공한다.
이에 시는 16일 한림면 명동일반산업단지 내 미래자동차버추얼센터에서 ‘고중량물 AMR 시험평가센터’ 신축공사 착수보고회를 가졌다.
이날 행사에는 경남도, 김해시, 경남테크노파크, 한국전기연구원, 인제대학교, 경상국립대학교 그리고 시공업체 4개 사와 건설사업관리 1개 사 관계자 등 20여 명이 참석해 건축 공종별 추진 일정, 방향 등을 논의했다.
또 건설현장 안전수칙 이행 당부와 청렴협약서 서명, 청렴 캠페인도 함께 진행했다.
고중량물 AMR은 40t 이상의 화물을 자율적으로 운송하는 로봇으로, 항만을 비롯해 반도체, 항공, 조선 등 고부가가치 산업의 핵심 물류 로봇 기술로 주목받고 있는 진일보한 기술이다.
해당 센터는 2024년 산업통상자원부 제2차 산업혁신기반구축 공모사업으로 선정된 ‘고중량물 이송 자율이동체 시험평가센터 기반구축사업’의 일환으로, 지난 2월 설계를 시작으로 시공사 선정 등을 거쳐 오는 2월 초 착공에 들어가 2027년 4월 개소를 목표로 하고 있다.
총사업비 250억원(국비 100억, 도비 45억, 시비 105억)이 투입되며, 이 중 김해시와 경남도가 86억원의 건축비를 부담한다.
센터는 지상 2층, 연면적 1천198㎡ 규모의 정비실, 관제센터, 사무실로 구성되고, 항만의 기후 조건을 반영한 환경터널(166㎡)과 주행시험장(1만1천100㎡)도 동시에 조성하며 운영은 주관연구개발기관인 경남테크노파크에서에서 맡는다.
해당 사업은 2024년부터 2028년까지 총 5개년에 걸쳐 추진하는 사업으로 주관연구개발기관인 경남테크노파크를 비롯해 한국전기연구원, 인제대학교, 경상국립대학교가 공동연구개발기관으로 참여한다.
센터 구축과 더불어 도내 중소기업이 참여하는 컨소시엄을 통해 완성형 AMR과 핵심부품 시제품 제작을 지원해 기업의 기술 역량을 끌어올리는 시제품 제작 지원 기업지원 프로그램도 병행한다.

지난 8월 10개사로 구성된 시제품 제작 컨소시엄이 선정됐으며 해당 컨소시엄의 참여 기업들은 보유 기술을 바탕으로 핵심부품을 비롯해 오는 9월까지 완성형 AMR을 제작한다.
이런 고중량물 AMR은 진해신항을 비롯해 미국 롱비치항, 네덜란드 로테르담항, 중국 칭다오항 등 세계 주요 항만에서 도입이 지속적으로 확대되고 있음에도 국내는 제조사가 없어 해외에서 제품을 수입해 공급하고 있는 실정이다.
외국 장비의 국내시장 잠식은 제품단가 인상, 수리비용 과다와 기간 장기화 등 기업 부담 가중으로 이어질 수밖에 없다.
이런 국내외 수요와 어려운 기업 환경 속에서 김해시의 과감한 전략적 사업 추진은 프레임, 배터리, 모터 등 지역 로봇부품 제조기업들이이번 사업을 통해 고부가가치 핵심부품 제작 기술을 확보하고 향후 유지보수(MRO) 시장을 선점할 수 있는 기회를 우선 제공한다는 점에서 큰 의미를 갖는다.
시험평가센터가 위치할 명동산단 1380-8번지 일원은 김해시 미래자동차 클러스터 조성 부지이다.
지난 4월 ‘미래자동차버추얼센터’가 개소한데 이어 ‘미래모빌리티 열관리시스템기술사업화 지원센터’와 ‘초안전주행플랫폼 실용화센터’가 올해 차례로 구축 예정이어서 고중량물 AMR 센터가 완공되면 AMR과 자동차 산업 간 시너지 효과가 기대된다.
박종환 경제국장은 “김해시의 로봇산업에 대한 선제적인 투자는 새 정부의 북극항로 개척과 국가 물류플랫폼 구축 정책 등 국가 신성장 전략과 맞물려 지역의 전반적인 산업 경쟁력 수준을 한 단계 높일 것으로 기대한다”며 “사업수행기관들과 고중량 AMR·중고로봇 리퍼브·물류로봇 기반 산업 육성으로 지역 기업의 기술 자립을 뒷받침하고 한국형 로봇산업 모델 제시와 글로벌 첨단산업 도시로의 위상을 확립해 나갈 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
