Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, Holds Situation Assessment Meeting for Cold Wave Preparedness… Maintains Integrated Response System
Cold waves are not simply a weather phenomenon, but a disaster directly affecting the lives of citizens... We are doing our best to protect vulnerable groups and prevent inconveniences in daily life.
[Break News Yangju=Kim Wan-young] On the 20th, Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, held a situation assessment meeting for natural disasters (cold waves) in the city hall situation room, chaired by the mayor. The meeting reviewed departmental and town/village/dong response measures and situation management systems in response to the cold wave warning issued across Gyeonggi Province.
This meeting was held as a preemptive measure to minimize casualties and inconveniences caused by the cold wave, as the longest and most intense cold wave of the winter is expected to continue.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, temperatures are expected to drop to around -15 degrees Celsius, especially in inland areas, accompanied by strong winds. The meeting focused on countermeasures to address the potential impacts on health, frozen water pipes, and transportation disruptions caused by the lower perceived temperature.
Yangju City will maintain an integrated response system centered around the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, focusing on ▲protecting vulnerable populations during cold waves ▲managing basic infrastructure such as water, energy, and communications ▲inspecting agricultural and livestock sectors and public and private facilities ▲managing traffic safety and promoting citizen behavior guidelines.
In particular, the city plans to strengthen on-site surveillance and check-ups on the well-being of vulnerable populations, focusing on townships, counties, and neighborhoods. It will also regularly monitor the operation of cold wave shelters to maintain a system capable of immediate response on the ground.
Mayor Kang stated, "Cold waves are not simply a weather phenomenon; they are a disaster directly affecting the lives of citizens." He urged, "With the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at the center, relevant departments, townships, counties, and neighborhoods, and related organizations should work together to do their utmost to protect vulnerable populations and prevent inconveniences."
Meanwhile, Yangju City plans to maintain its situation management system until the cold wave advisory is lifted, while continuing to promote citizen behavior guidelines and provide on-site response.
