이번 사업은 급식조리실 환기시설과 급식실을 현대화해 급식종사자의 건강을 지키고, 학교급식의 위생과 안전 수준을 한층 끌어올리는 데 초점이 맞춰졌다.
21일 대구시교육청에 따르면, 2026학년도 겨울방학까지 전체 대상 학교의 81%가량을 먼저 개선하고, 2027년까지는 모든 학교의 환기시설 개선을 완료할 방침이다.
총 사업비 482억 원 중 환기시설 개선에 225억 원, 급식실 현대화에 208억 원, 노후기구 교체 및 소규모 시설 개선에 49억 원이 각각 투입된다.
환기시설 개선 사업은 134개 학교에서 진행된다. 주요 내용은 조리 과정에서 발생하는 미세먼지와 유해물질을 효과적으로 배출할 수 있도록 기존 환기 시스템을 전면적으로 교체하거나 성능을 높이는 것이다. 교육청은 올해 사업 물량을 포함해 2026년 겨울방학까지 전체 대상의 약 81%를 개선하고, 이후 단계적으로 사업을 넓혀 2027년까지 모든 학교에 확대한단 계획이다.
급식실 현대화 사업은 25개 학교에서 추진된다. 이 가운데 노후 급식실 리모델링이 21곳, 급식실 이전과 식당 확장 공사가 3곳, 공간 재구조화가 1곳에서 각각 진행된다. HACCP 기준에 맞게 작업 공간을 새로 배치하고, 자동교반기 등 자동화 설비를 도입해 조리 동선을 최적화하고 작업 효율성을 높일 예정이다.
노후 급식기구 교체와 근무환경 개선에도 49억 원이 투입된다. 급식종사자들의 노동강도를 덜고 산업재해를 막기 위해 자동화 기구 도입은 물론, 휴게공간·샤워실·냉난방과 공조장치도 함께 정비할 계획이다.
공사 기간 중 급식 공백을 최소화하기 위한 대책도 마련됐다. 급식실 현대화 공사는 방학 시작과 함께 착공하는 것이 원칙이며, 학교별로 약 4~5개월이 소요될 전망이다. 불가피하게 학기 중에 공사가 이뤄지는 경우에는 위탁급식을 운영할 계획이다. 급식실 이전이 필요한 학교는 직영급식을 유지하고, 환기시설 개선은 방학 중에만 진행한다.
대구시교육청은 이번 시설 개선을 통해 급식종사자의 호흡기 건강 보호와 작업환경 개선은 물론, 학교급식의 위생과 안전도 크게 높아질 것으로 기대했다. 또, 자동화 설비 도입으로 노동 강도가 줄고 급식 품질과 학교 복지 수준도 점진적으로 향상될 것으로 내다봤다.
