【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=정장수 대구 중구청장 출마예정자가 ‘광역교통 혁명’을 슬로건으로 내세우며 대구역 중심의 교통 혁신 공약을 발표했다.
정 출마예정자는 “대구역을 KTX·SRT가 정차하는 중심 허브로 만들어, 전국 어디에서나 쉽게 올 수 있는 ‘열린 도시 중구’를 실현하겠다”고 밝혔다. 주요 정책으로는 KTX·SRT의 대구역 정차와 대구역 인근 도심 관광지 활성화를 내세웠다.
공약은 단계별로 추진된다. 단기적으로는 국토교통부와 코레일 등 관계 기관과 협의해 SRT가 대구역에 정차할 수 있도록 우선 추진한다는 구상이다. 출마예정자 측은 “현재 대구역이 2개 선로를 사용하고 있어 선로 운영상 여유가 있는 만큼, 조율만 이뤄지면 SRT 일부 편성은 상대적으로 빠르게 정차시킬 수 있다”는 입장이다.
중기 과제로는 대구역 플랫폼을 확장해 KTX 16량 편성도 정차할 수 있도록 하겠다고 밝혔다. 지금까지 대구 지역 고속철도는 대부분 동대구역에 정차했으나, 대구역은 플랫폼이 짧아 KTX 정차가 어려웠다는 설명이다.
이와 함께 대구경북광역철도와 태평로역(가칭)의 조기 완공, 도시철도 환승체계 강화 등 광역 교통망 구축도 공약에 포함됐다. 정 출마예정자는 “광역교통망을 통해 구미, 경산, 김천 등 인접 지역과의 접근성을 높이겠다”며 “경북권과 중구를 더욱 가깝게 연결할 것”이라고 강조했다.
관광 활성화 정책도 담았다. 정 출마예정자는 “대구역 반경 1km 안에는 동성로, 경상감영공원, 대구근대문화골목, iM뱅크파크 등이 모여 있다”며 “서문시장, 달성공원, 김광석길 등도 도보 동선이 편리해 관광 체류시간을 자연스럽게 늘릴 수 있다”고 말했다.
정 출마예정자는 “교통 접근성 향상이 곧 관광객 유입과 지역경제 활성화로 이어진다”며 “대구역을 중심으로 역사·문화 자산을 관광 산업과 연계해 중구의 새로운 성장 동력을 만들겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
