[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘이 이재명 정부가 추진 중인 ‘언론 장악 진상규명 특별법’과 관련해 “사회대개혁의 탈을 쓴 언론 장악 시도”라며 강력 규탄에 나섰다.
박성훈 국민의힘 수석대변인은 논평을 내고 “이재명 정권의 권력 사유화 야욕이 끝을 모르고 폭주하고 있다”며 “국무총리 직속 사회대개혁위원회가 ‘언론 장악 진상 규명’을 명분 삼아 특별법 제정과 직권 조사를 추진하려는 것은 언론의 자유를 무력화하려는 음모”라고 비판했다.
박 대변인은 이어 “정권을 보호하기 위해 이른바 ‘사법 파괴 3법’을 강행해 사법부를 권력의 하청 기관으로 전락시키더니, 이제는 언론의 입까지 막아 비판 여론을 봉쇄하려 한다”며 “이것은 사실상 ‘언론 입틀막법’이며, 민주주의의 근간을 위협하는 반헌법적 폭거”라고 주장했다.
그는 또 “위원장으로 내정된 인사 역시 과거 반미 시위를 주도하고 극단적 이념 편향성을 보여온 전력이 있다”며 “이런 인물이 과거 언론을 겨냥해 조사를 운운하는 것은 명백한 정치 보복이다. 사회대개혁위원회는 중립 기구가 아니라 정권의 언론 통제 내각”이라고 직격했다.
박 대변인은 이번 사태를 “정권의 입맛에 맞지 않는 언론을 척결하고, 공영방송을 영구히 자신들의 스피커로 만들려는 ‘언론 숙청 선언’”이라고 규정했다. 그는 “이는 진상 규명이라는 이름을 씌운 홍위병식 검열이며, 모든 언론이 정권을 찬양하는 ‘명비어천가’만 부르게 만들겠다는 서슬 퍼런 경고”라고 비판 수위를 높였다.
그는 또 “사법을 장악하고 언론을 통제하는 것은 모든 독재 정권이 걸었던 전형적인 길”이라며 “그러나 역사는 권력을 사유화하고 언론을 탄압한 모든 정권의 최후가 얼마나 비참했는지를 분명히 보여주고 있다”고 경고했다.
박 대변인은 “이재명 정권은 대한민국 민주주의의 보루인 언론을 정권의 발밑에 두려는 무모한 시도를 즉각 중단해야 한다”며 “국민의힘은 이번 조작적 기획을 명백한 반헌법적 폭거로 규정한다. 언론의 자유를 지키기 위해 가능한 모든 수단을 동원해 맞설 것”이라고 밝혔다.

The People Power Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the Lee government’s push for a so-called *Special Act on Investigating Media Control*, calling it “an attempt to seize the press under the guise of social reform.”
In a statement, PPP senior spokesperson Park Sung-hoon said, “The Lee administration’s obsession with privatizing state power is running out of control,” arguing that “plans to enact a special law and launch an investigation under the Prime Minister’s Committee for Social Reform are nothing more than a ploy to undermine press freedom.”
Park added, “After forcing through the so-called ‘three judiciary-destroying bills’ to turn the courts into a subcontractor of political power, the government is now trying to silence the press to suppress criticism. This is effectively a gag law that threatens the very foundation of democracy.”
He also took aim at the candidate reportedly tapped to lead the committee, noting that the person “has a history of leading anti-U.S. protests and displaying extreme ideological bias,” and claimed that “putting such a figure in charge of probing the media amounts to blatant political retaliation.”
Park characterized the move as “a declaration of media purge designed to eliminate outlets that do not toe the government line and to permanently turn public broadcasters into its mouthpieces.” He went on to say, “This is a form of ideological censorship disguised as an investigation, a chilling warning to make every media outlet sing praises to the regime.”
He further warned that “seizing the judiciary and controlling the press are hallmarks of every authoritarian regime in history” and that “history shows how miserably such regimes have always ended.”
Park urged the government to “immediately halt this reckless attempt to subjugate the press—the stronghold of Korean democracy—to its political interests,” vowing that the People Power Party “will use every possible means to defend press freedom and stop this unconstitutional maneuver.”
