고양특례시 이동환 시장과 이승환 한강유역환경청장이 지난 9일 장항습지를 함께 방문해 주요 현안을 점검하고 향후 협력 방안을 논의했다.
이날 이승환 청장의 취임 후 첫 장항습지 방문으로 이루어진 이번 현장 점검에서 양 기관장은 장항습지생태관 시설을 둘러보고 탐방로를 따라 이동하며 습지의 생태적 특성과 관리 현황을 직접 확인했다.

이번 만남에서는 크게 세 가지 현안이 집중 논의됐다.
먼저 군부대와 연계한 지뢰 안전 대책 강화를 통해 시민들이 안심하고 생태를 체험할 수 있는 환경을 조성하는 방안이 논의됐으며, 생태계 교란종에 대한 효과적인 대응 체계 구축과 고유 생물종 보호 방안도 주요 의제로 다뤄졌다.
아울러 한강하구 습지 보호지역으로서의 생태적 가치를 지속적으로 보존하기 위한 양 기관 간 행정 협력 방안도 논의됐다.

이동환 시장은 "장항습지는 한강하구의 대표적인 생태자원이자 고양시가 지켜나가야 할 소중한 자연 자산"이라며 "앞으로도 한강유역환경청과 긴밀히 협력해 체계적인 보전은 물론 철저한 안전관리와 생물다양성 증진을 지속적으로 추진해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.
현재 고양시는 장항습지생태관을 거점으로 생태 보전 활동과 함께 환경 교육 및 생태 체험 프로그램을 강화하고 있다.
다양한 철새와 야생동물의 서식지인 장항습지를 단순한 보호 구역을 넘어 인간과 자연이 공존하는 지속 가능한 생태 거점으로 발전시킨다는 계획이다.
