청와대가 11일 "주한 미군 전력 일부의 해외 이동 여부와 관계없이 군사력 수준·국방비 지출 규모·방위 산업 역량·장병들 높은 사기 등을 감안 시 대북 억지력엔 전혀 문제가 없다"고 밝혔다.
청와대는 이날 오전 언론 공지를 통해 사드(THAAD·고고도미사일방어체계)·패트리엇 등 주한 미군 방공 자산 중동 반출 보도 관련해 "한·미 간 전력 운용 관련 정부 언급은 적절치 않다"며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "한·미 양국은 굳건한 연합 방위 태세를 유지해 한반도·역내 평화·안정에 기여코자 하며 긴밀한 소통·공조를 지속해나갈 것"이라고 했다.
또 "군사적으로 민감한 내용에 대한 과도한 보도·추측성 기사는 안보 이해·해외 국민 안전·대외 방산 협력·주요 중동 국가들과의 관계 등에 비춰 바람직 않다"고 덧붙였다.
앞서 지난 9일(현지시간) 미 'WP(워싱턴포스트)'는 미 정부 관계자 2명을 인용해 한국에 배치된 사드 일부가 중동 지역으로 이동 중이라고 보도한 가운데 이날 주한 미군이 사드 요격 미사일의 중동 차출 준비 작업에 나섰다는 보도 역시 나왔다.
