부산시는 가덕도 신공항철도 연결선 사업이 10일 기획재정부의 예비타당성조사를 최종 통과했다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 건설 중인 부전 마산 복선전철과 기존 부산신항선 사이의 6.58km 구간을 잇는 철도 노선 신설 프로젝트로 총 6,025억 원의 사업비가 투입될 예정이다.

연결선이 완공되면 부산 부전역에서 가덕도신공항까지 약 26분 울산 태화강역에서는 약 92분 만에 도착할 수 있어 부울경 시민들의 공항 접근성이 획기적으로 개선될 전망이다. 주요 운행 계획에 따르면 울산 태화강역부터 가덕도신공항까지 이어지는 총 101.7km 구간에 ITX-마음 열차가 약 25분 간격으로 투입되어 운행될 예정이다.
물류 혁신과 경제 활성화 기대
이번 연결선은 여객 수송뿐만 아니라 물류 경쟁력 강화에도 핵심적인 역할을 한다. 기존 삼랑진으로 우회하던 부산신항과 울산신항 간 화물 노선이 직결되면서 물류 이동 거리가 약 60km 단축되어 비용 절감과 항만 경쟁력 강화 효과가 클 것으로 예상된다.
동남권 트라이포트의 완성
박형준 부산시장은 이번 성과에 대해 가덕도신공항을 남부권 글로벌 관문 공항으로 도약시키는 중요한 전환점이라며 공항 항만 철도를 연계한 트라이포트('Tri-Port' ) 인프라를 통해 부울경 초광역 경제권의 핵심 기반을 구축하겠다고 강조했다.
시는 정부와 협의해 기본계획 수립 등 후속 절차를 속도감 있게 진행하여 가덕도신공항 개항 시기에 맞춰 철도망을 개통할 계획이다.

Busan Metropolitan City announced on the 10th that the Gadeokdo New Airport Railway Connection Project has officially passed the government's preliminary feasibility study. This project involves constructing a 6.58-kilometer railway link connecting the Bujeon-Masan Double Track Railway currently under construction with the existing Busan Newport Line, with a total investment of approximately 602.5 billion won.
Establishment of a Metropolitan Transport Network
Once the connection is completed, travel time from Busan Bujeon Station to Gadeokdo New Airport will be reduced to approximately 26 minutes, while the journey from Ulsan Taehwagang Station will take about 92 minutes. This is expected to drastically improve airport access for residents in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions. According to the main operational plan, ITX-Maeum trains will run at approximately 25-minute intervals over the total 101.7-kilometer section from Ulsan Taehwagang Station to Gadeokdo New Airport.
Expectations for Logistics Innovation and Economic Revitalization
This connection line plays a pivotal role not only in passenger transport but also in strengthening logistics competitiveness. By directly linking the freight railway lines between Busan Newport and Ulsan Newport—which previously detoured toward Samrangjin—the logistics movement distance will be shortened by about 60 kilometers. This is expected to result in significant cost savings and enhanced port competitiveness.
Completion of the Southeastern Tri-Port
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating that the passing of the feasibility study is a major turning point in elevating Gadeokdo New Airport into a global gateway for Southern Korea. He added that the city will establish a core infrastructure for the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam mega-economic zone by completing the Tri-Port system that links the airport, seaport, and railway. The city plans to speed up follow-up procedures, such as establishing a basic plan in consultation with the government, to ensure the railway network opens in line with the inauguration of Gadeokdo New Airport.
