[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 10일 오전 시청에서 글로벌 창업도시 평가기관 스타트업 지놈의 제이에프 고티에 최고경영자와 면담을 갖고 부산 창업 생태계의 고도화 및 글로벌 경쟁력 강화 방안을 논의했다.
이번 면담은 지난해 9월 부산시와 스타트업 지놈이 글로벌 창업 허브 도시 경쟁력 강화를 위한 업무협력 의향서를 체결한 이후 협력 관계를 구체화하기 위해 추진됐다. 스타트업 지놈은 매년 글로벌 스타트업 생태계 보고서를 발간하는 세계적 평가기관으로, 부산은 2025년 처음으로 신흥 창업 도시 순위 80위권에 진입했다.
양측은 현재 부산 창업 생태계 고도화를 위한 3단계 컨설팅을 진행하고 있다. 1단계는 지역 창업 환경 평가, 2단계는 정책 설계, 3단계는 정책 시행으로 구성되며 이를 통해 부산형 창업 생태계 로드맵을 구축할 예정이다.
제이에프 고티에 CEO는 9일부터 12일까지 부산에 머물며 창업지원기관과 벤처캐피털, 액셀러레이터, 기술 스타트업 등을 대상으로 현장 인터뷰를 진행하고 창업 공간을 직접 둘러본다. 이러한 조사 결과는 향후 부산 창업 생태계 정책 설계에 반영될 예정이다.
부산시는 스타트업 지놈과 함께 지역 스타트업의 해외 진출을 지원하는 하이퍼그로스 프로그램도 운영하고 있다. 이 프로그램은 성장 단계의 유망 스타트업을 대상으로 미국 시장 진출 전략 수립, 현지 투자자 및 산업 전문가 네트워킹, 글로벌 투자 유치 역량 강화, 제품과 비즈니스 모델 현지화 컨설팅 등을 지원하는 글로벌 스케일업 프로그램이다.
단순 교육이나 멘토링을 넘어 미국 현지 산업 분야의 임원과 투자 전문가가 참여해 기업 전략을 구체화하고 실질적 투자 연계 가능성까지 검토한다는 점에서 높은 실효성을 가진다.

현재 부산의 유망 스타트업 두 곳이 참여 기업으로 선정됐으며, 오는 17일부터 20일까지 미국 실리콘밸리에서 투자자 미팅과 현지 기업 방문, 네트워킹 행사에 참여할 예정이다.
박형준 시장은 부산의 혁신 인프라와 스타트업 지놈의 글로벌 표준 분석체계가 결합하면 부산은 글로벌 투자자와 창업가가 주목하는 도시로 한 단계 도약할 수 있을 것이라며, 이번 방문을 계기로 부산의 강점이 세계적으로 인정받고 지역 스타트업의 글로벌 진출 성과가 본격화되도록 적극 지원하겠다고 밝혔다.

Mayor Park Meets with Startup Genome CEO to Discuss Ecosystem Advancement
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon met with JF Gauthier, CEO of Startup Genome, on March 10 at City Hall to discuss strategies for advancing the city’s startup ecosystem and enhancing its global competitiveness.
The meeting follows last year’s signing of a Letter of Intent between Busan and Startup Genome to strengthen the city’s position as a global startup hub. Startup Genome is known for publishing the annual *Global Startup Ecosystem Report* and recognized Busan in 2025 as one of the world’s emerging startup cities, ranking in the top 80 for the first time.
Busan and Startup Genome are conducting a three-phase consulting project that includes evaluating the current ecosystem, designing policies, and implementing key initiatives to build a long-term roadmap for Busan’s innovation environment.
Gauthier is visiting Busan from March 9 to 12, meeting with startup support organizations, venture capital firms, accelerators, and tech startups to gather insights and review local innovation infrastructure. The findings will help shape future policies for the city’s startup development strategy.
In parallel, the two sides are running the *Hypergrowth* program, which supports promising Busan-based startups expanding into the U.S. market. The program provides tailored assistance on market entry strategies, investor and expert networking, investment readiness, and business model localization. Unlike conventional training programs, industry executives and investors from the U.S. participate directly to refine product and investment strategies, creating tangible growth opportunities for participants.
Two rising startups from Busan have already been selected for the program and will take part in activities in Silicon Valley from March 17 to 20, including investor meetings, company visits, and networking events.
Mayor Park said that combining Busan’s startup infrastructure with Startup Genome’s global analysis framework will raise the city’s visibility among international investors and entrepreneurs. He added that Busan will continue to actively support local startups in achieving meaningful global expansion and recognition.
