[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산에서 국내 최대 규모 물산업 박람회인 WATER KOREA 2026이 10년 만에 개최된다. 이번 행사에는 216개 기업이 참여해 최신 물관리 기술과 산업 동향을 선보이며 약 2만 명의 관람객이 방문할 것으로 예상된다.
부산시 상수도사업본부는 오는 18일부터 20일까지 3일간 부산 해운대구 벡스코 제1전시장에서 2026 국제물산업박람회 WATER KOREA를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 개막식은 18일 오전 11시에 열린다.
기후위기 대응과 디지털 전환 중심 행사
올해 박람회는 Smart Water Blue Future를 주제로 기후위기 대응과 디지털 전환을 핵심 키워드로 진행된다. 행사에서는 물산업의 최신 기술과 정책 동향을 공유하고 상하수도 관리 체계의 선진화 방안을 모색하는 다양한 프로그램이 마련됐다.
부산시와 한국상하수도협회가 공동 주최하고 기후에너지환경부와 행정안전부, 한국수자원공사, 한국환경공단, 한국환경산업기술원, 대한무역투자진흥공사가 후원한다.
WATER KOREA는 국내 물산업 활성화와 산업 종사자 교류를 위해 2002년 시작된 행사다. 2012년부터는 세계 물의 날인 22일과 연계해 개최되고 있다.
609개 부스 규모 전시와 다양한 산업 기술 소개
이번 박람회에는 216개 기업이 참여해 총 609개 부스를 운영한다. 상하수도 건설, 수처리 설비, 관과 맨홀, 밸브, 시설 운영, 측정기기, 인공지능 기반 스마트 상하수도 기술 등 다양한 분야의 장비와 기술이 전시된다.
또한 슬러지 처리, 청소, 조사와 진단, 시험 분석 등 물산업 전반의 기술을 소개하며 기업 간 투자 유치와 판로 확대를 위한 플랫폼 역할을 할 전망이다. 박람회 기간 기업 성과는 약 600억 원 규모로 예상된다.
취업박람회와 학술행사 등 부대 프로그램 운영
행사 기간에는 제품 전시 외에도 취업박람회와 수출 구매 상담회, 세미나, 체육대회, 논문 공모전, 학술대회 등이 진행된다.
특히 수처리 분야 디지털 전환과 싱크홀 예방 기술, 친환경 대체에너지 기술 등 글로벌 물산업의 최신 기술을 공유하는 세미나가 마련된다. 산학연관 협력을 통해 지속 가능한 물관리 발전 방향을 논의하는 자리도 마련된다.
부산시 취수원 다변화 홍보와 청년 일자리 연계
올해 행사에서는 부산시 단독 홍보관이 운영돼 취수원 다변화 사업의 중요성을 알린다. 안전하고 깨끗한 식수 확보와 지역 상생 메시지를 중심으로 정책 홍보가 진행될 예정이다.
또한 부산경제진흥원과 협력해 환경산업 청년 일자리 박람회를 연계 개최한다. 이를 통해 청년들에게 물산업 분야 취업 기회를 제공하고 기업의 구직난 해소에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
부산 물산업 기업 공동관 운영
부산시는 지역 물산업 기업 10곳이 참여하는 공동기업관도 처음으로 설치한다. 참여 기업들은 기자재와 누수 탐지, 관로 조사, 친환경 시스템, 수처리 기술 등 다양한 분야의 신기술을 선보인다.
시는 참가 기업을 대상으로 신기술 전시와 구매 상담회 개최를 지원하고 전시 참가비 일부를 지원해 기업 판로 확대를 돕는다.
박형준 부산시장은 이번 행사를 통해 부산이 스마트 물관리 미래를 확인할 수 있는 도시임을 보여주는 계기가 될 것이라며 10년 만에 부산에서 열리는 박람회를 성공적으로 개최해 국내외 기업에 실질적인 사업 기회를 제공하고 물산업 발전을 이끌겠다고 밝혔다.

South Korea’s largest international water industry exhibition, WATER KOREA 2026, will be held in Busan for the first time in a decade, bringing together 216 companies to showcase the latest technologies and trends in the water sector.
Busan’s Waterworks Authority announced that the 2026 International Water Industry Expo WATER KOREA will take place from March 18 to March 20 at Hall 1 of BEXCO in Busan. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 18.
Focus on climate response and digital transformation
This year’s exhibition will be held under the theme Smart Water Blue Future, highlighting climate crisis response and digital transformation as key topics. The event will feature a range of programs designed to share the latest technologies and policy trends while exploring ways to modernize water supply and sewage management systems.
The expo is jointly hosted by the Busan Metropolitan Government and the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association, with support from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Water Resources Corporation, the Korea Environment Corporation, the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency.
Launched in 2002, WATER KOREA has served as a platform to promote the domestic water industry and strengthen collaboration among industry professionals. Since 2012, the event has been held in connection with World Water Day on March 22.
609 exhibition booths featuring water industry technologies
A total of 216 companies will operate 609 booths at the exhibition. The event will showcase a wide range of technologies including water and wastewater infrastructure, treatment facilities, pipes, manholes, valves, operational systems, measuring equipment and AI based smart water management solutions.
Other areas include sludge treatment, cleaning services, inspection and diagnostics, as well as testing and analysis technologies across the water industry. Organizers expect about 20,000 visitors and anticipate business outcomes worth approximately 60 billion won.
Job fair and academic events alongside the exhibition
In addition to product displays, the event will host various programs including a job fair, export and purchasing consultation sessions, seminars, a sports event, a paper competition and academic conferences.
Seminars will address global water industry trends such as digital transformation in water treatment, sinkhole prevention technologies and eco friendly alternative energy solutions. The sessions will provide a platform for cooperation among industry, academia, research institutions and government agencies.
Busan promotes diversified water sources and youth employment
This year Busan will also operate its own promotional pavilion highlighting the importance of its water source diversification project. The campaign will focus on the themes of safe and clean drinking water and regional cooperation.
In partnership with the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, the city will also host an environmental industry youth job fair to increase young people’s interest in the water industry and help companies address recruitment challenges.
Joint pavilion for Busan based water industry companies
For the first time, the city will also support a joint pavilion for 10 Busan based water industry companies. The firms will present new technologies in areas such as equipment manufacturing, leak detection, pipeline inspection, eco friendly systems, pipeline cleaning and water treatment.
The city will assist participating companies by organizing technology exhibitions and purchasing consultation meetings while providing partial support for exhibition participation fees to help expand their market opportunities.
Busan Mayor Park Heong joon said the event will demonstrate that Busan is a city where the future of smart water management can be seen firsthand and added that the successful hosting of the expo will provide practical business opportunities for domestic and international companies and contribute to the growth of the water industry.
