[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 영화진흥위원회 한국영화아카데미(KAFA)가 오는 13일부터 15일까지 서울 메가박스 신촌점에서, 21일 부산 영화진흥위원회 본사 표준시사실에서 ‘2026 한국영화아카데미 졸업영화제’를 연다.
올해 졸업영화제는 ‘우리 무슨 사이야’를 슬로건으로 내세웠다. 영화와 관객, 극장 사이의 관계를 탐색하며 함께 영화를 보는 경험의 가치를 되새기는 취지를 담았다.
정규과정 졸업·실습작품 섹션은 ‘아찔한 사이’ ‘꿈꾸는 사이’ ‘닿을 수 없는 사이’ 등 총 7개로 구성된다. 단편 실사극 18편과 단편 애니메이션 5편이 상영되며, 가수 최백호의 노래를 모티프로 한 단편 ‘낭만에 대하여’, 반쪽 인간의 여정을 그린 애니메이션 ‘하프웨이’ 등이 포함됐다.
국내외 영화제에서 성과를 거둔 KAFA 장편과정 작품들도 상영된다. 부산국제영화제 뉴커런츠상과 부산 어워드를 받은 ‘지우러 가는 길’, 씨네21상과 올해의 배우상을 수상한 ‘아코디언 도어’, 베를린국제영화제 제너레이션 14플러스 부문에 초청된 ‘지우러 가는 길’ 등이 관객을 만난다.
또한 지난해 신설된 글로벌과정의 결과물을 소개하는 ‘글로벌 섹션’에서는 한국, 일본, 중국, 사우디아라비아, 베트남 등 5개국 창작자들이 제작한 단편 4편이 상영된다. 시리아 난민 소년의 이야기를 다룬 ‘어디선가 염소가 울었다’가 대표작이다.
KAFA는 지난 40여 년간 실습 중심 교육을 통해 봉준호, 장준환, 엄태화 등 한국영화계를 대표하는 창작자를 배출해왔다. 위원회는 이번 졸업영화제가 한국영화의 미래를 보여주는 무대가 될 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔다.

The Korean Film Council’s Korean Academy of Film Arts KAFA, led by President Cho Geun sik, will hold the 2026 KAFA Graduation Film Festival from March 13 to 15 at Megabox Sinchon in Seoul and on March 21 at the council headquarters screening room in Busan.
This year’s festival carries the theme What Are We to Each Other, exploring the relationships between films, audiences, and theaters. The program aims to reflect on the value of shared cinematic experiences in a rapidly changing industry.
The Regular Course Graduation and Practice Film Section features seven categories such as Thrilling Relations, Dreaming Relations, and Distant but Close Relations. A total of 23 short films including 18 live action and 5 animated works will be screened. Highlights include About Romance, inspired by singer Choi Baek ho’s classic song, and Halfway, an animation about a half bodied person searching for his missing part.
Feature length projects recognized at major domestic and international film festivals will also be presented. They include The Way to Erase, winner of the New Currents Award and Busan Award at the 30th Busan International Film Festival and invited to the Berlin International Film Festival Generation 14plus section, Accordion Door, which won the Cine21 Award and Best Actor Award at Busan, and Hwagoksa, an animated feature noted for its visual creativity.
The Global Section, launched last year as part of KAFA’s International Co production Workshop, will present four short films produced by emerging filmmakers from Korea, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. Among them is Somewhere the Goat Cried, portraying the story of a Syrian refugee boy.
For more than 40 years, KAFA has nurtured leading filmmakers including Bong Joon ho, Jang Joon hwan, and Um Tae hwa through its practice based curriculum. The council expects this year’s graduation festival to showcase the creative potential shaping the future of Korean cinema.
