파주시, 지혜의숲에서 독서국가 선포식 개최

파주시는 지난 11일 파주출판도시 지혜의숲 대회의실에서 시민과 도서관·교육·출판 관계자 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘파주시 독서국가 선포식’을 개최했다.

이번 선포식은 지난 1월 국회의원회관에서 열린 ‘독서국가 선포식 및 독서국가 추진위원회 출범식’의 취지에 발맞춰 마련된 행사로, 인공지능(AI) 시대에 대응하는 독서교육의 국가적 전환 움직임에 동참하기 위해 기획됐으며 특히 대한민국 출판문화산업을 선도해온 파주출판도시에서 개최돼 ‘책의 도시’ 파주의 위상을 다시 한번 확인하는 계기가 됐다.

이날 행사에서는 전 세대 독서문화 확산과 학교·도서관·가정·지역사회가 함께하는 지속 가능한 독서 생태계 구축, 출판 및 문화산업 존중과 지식·콘텐츠 선순환 기반 강화, 경청과 토론이 살아있는 시민사회 구현, 독서를 통한 미래 준비 등의 내용을 담은 선언문이 발표됐다.

이어 진행된 대형 붓글씨 시연은 독서국가를 향한 파주의 의지를 상징적으로 표현하며 참석자들의 큰 박수를 받았으며 행사장에는 선언의 의미를 되새기려는 시민들의 발걸음이 이어지며 독서에 대한 높은 관심과 공감대를 확인할 수 있었다.

국회 독서국가 추진위원회 공동위원장이자 문단계의 아이돌로 불리는 박준 작가는 ‘읽는 하루’를 주제로 강연을 진행하며 “빠르게 변화하는 시대일수록 깊이 읽고 사유하는 힘이 더욱 중요하다”며 독서가 개인의 삶을 넘어 사회를 변화시키는 원동력이라고 강조했다.
