고양특례시 대화도서관은 시민들의 깊이 있는 독서 경험을 지원하기 위해 토마 피케티의 저서 ‘21세기 자본’을 함께 읽는 ‘완독 챌린지’를 운영한다.

이번 프로그램은 혼자 읽기에는 분량이 방대해 부담스러운 이른바 ‘벽돌책’을 참여자들이 함께 읽으며 독서 인증과 토론을 통해 내용을 공유하는 시민 참여형 독서 프로그램이다.
챌린지는 4월 1일부터 5월 13일까지 진행된다.
독서 인증은 4월 1일, 4월 15일, 4월 29일 등 총 3회에 걸쳐 카카오톡 오픈채팅으로 실시되며 이후 5월 13일 오전 10시부터 11시 30분까지 대화도서관 서로배움터에서 오프라인 독서 모임을 갖고 책에 대한 의견과 감상을 나눌 예정이다.
대화도서관 관계자는 혼자 읽기 어려운 인문·사회 분야 도서를 함께 읽고 서로 격려하는 과정을 통해 완독의 성취감을 경험할 수 있을 것이라며, 시민들이 독서 공동체를 통해 깊이 있는 독서의 즐거움을 느끼길 바란다고 밝혔다.

Goyang City Dialogue Library Hosts "Capital in the 21st Century" Reading Challenge
Goyang City's Dialogue Library is hosting a "Reading Challenge" to encourage citizens to read Thomas Piketty's book "Capital in the 21st Century" together to deepen their reading experience.
This program is a citizen-participatory reading program where participants read together the so-called "brick book," a book so voluminous it's difficult to read alone. Participants will share their reading experience through reading certifications and discussions.
The challenge will run from April 1 to May 13. Reading certifications will be held three times: on April 1, April 15, and April 29 via KakaoTalk Open Chat. An offline reading group will then be held at the Dialogue Library's Mutual Learning Center on May 13 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM to share their thoughts and impressions on the book.
A Dialogue Library official said that citizens will be able to experience a sense of accomplishment in completing books by reading together and encouraging each other in humanities and social sciences books that are difficult to read alone, and that they hope that citizens will feel the joy of deep reading through the reading community.
