[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 주진우 국민의힘 국회의원은 포괄적 차별금지법과 종교기관 폐쇄법 추진 움직임에 대해 종교의 자유를 침해할 수 있다며 강하게 비판했다.
주 의원은 14일 오후 부산역 광장에서 열린 거룩한방파제 부산 국민대회에 참석해 “포괄적 차별금지법과 종교기관 폐쇄법은 종교계의 입을 막기 위한 악법”이라며 “반드시 막아내겠다”고 말했다.
그는 “종교의 자유는 헌법이 보장하는 기본권으로 정부 권력에 의해 본질적인 부분이 침해돼서는 안 된다”며 “정부가 종교 활동을 제한하려는 시도는 바람직하지 않다”고 주장했다.
또 “포괄적 차별금지법은 종교계만의 문제가 아니라 정부가 민간기업과 교육기관 등 사회 전반에 개입할 수 있는 근거가 될 수 있다”고 지적했다.
주 의원은 “평등을 내세우지만 실제로는 특정 단체의 민간 영역 개입을 확대할 가능성이 있다”며 “승진 채용 교육 물품과 용역 제공 등 여러 분야에 법이 적용되면 소송이 늘어날 수 있고 기업과 경제에 부담이 될 수 있다”고 말했다.
외교 문제 가능성도 언급했다. 그는 “성적 지향 인종 피부색 국적 등 차별 금지 사유가 광범위하게 규정될 경우 외교의 상호 호혜 원칙 적용에 논란이 생길 수 있고 자국민 역차별 문제가 제기될 수 있다”고 주장했다.

주 의원은 “민주당이 우회 발의한 포괄적 차별금지법에 대해 정부와 대통령이 분명한 입장을 밝혀야 한다”고 말했다.
이날 행사에는 포괄적 차별금지법과 종교기관 폐쇄법에 반대하는 종교단체와 시민단체 관계자들이 참석해 집회를 열었다.

Rep. Joo Jin-woo of People Power Party criticized the proposed comprehensive anti-discrimination bill and a measure he described as a religious institution closure law, saying they could infringe on religious freedom.
Speaking at a rally at Busan Station plaza on March 14, Joo said, “The comprehensive anti-discrimination bill and the religious institution closure law are bad laws intended to silence religious groups. I will do everything possible to block them.”
He said religious freedom is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution and should not be infringed by government authority.
Joo argued that the proposed anti-discrimination legislation would not only affect religious organizations but could also allow government intervention in private companies, educational institutions and other sectors of society.
“While it is presented in the name of equality, it could enable outside groups to intervene in private sectors,” he said. “If the law applies broadly to areas such as promotions, hiring, education and the provision of goods and services, it could lead to an increase in lawsuits and place additional burdens on businesses and the economy.”
Joo also raised concerns about potential diplomatic issues. He said that if discrimination bans cover a wide range of categories including sexual orientation, race, skin color and nationality, questions could arise about reciprocity in foreign relations and possible reverse discrimination against South Korean citizens.
Joo called on President Lee Jae-myung and the government to clarify their position on the comprehensive anti-discrimination bill introduced through the opposition Democratic Party of Korea.
Religious organizations and civic groups opposing the proposed legislation also attended the rally.
