파주시가 오는 21일 시민과 함께하는 대규모 하천 정화 활동을 펼친다.
파주시는 오는 3월 22일 '세계 물의 날'을 기념해 21일오전 9시 30분부터 낮 12시 30분까지 공릉천과 금촌천 합류부 일대에서 '공릉천·금촌천 대청소' 행사를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
이번 행사는 파주시와 파주시환경센터 '에코온'을 주축으로 금촌 1·2·3동 주민자치회, 파주시지속가능발전협의회, 파주자원봉사센터, 파주환경운동연합 등 주요 기관·단체와 시민 150여 명이 함께하는 민·관 합동 프로젝트다.
참가자들은 시민 이용이 잦은 금촌천 합류부를 중심으로 하천 주변에 방치된 쓰레기를 수거하며 수질 개선과 생태계 보존 활동을 이어갈 예정이다.
올해 세계 물의 날 주제는 '모두를 이롭게, 세상을 품는 생명의 물'이다.
유엔(UN)이 지정한 이 기념일을 맞아 파주시는 건강한 물 순환 체계 회복의 필요성을 시민들에게 알리고, 지역 하천의 소중함을 공유한다는 방침이다.
시는 안전하고 체계적인 행사 진행을 위해 당일 안전교육을 실시하고 구간별 책임자와 안전요원을 배치할 계획이다.
환경 보호에 관심 있는 파주시민이라면 누구나 온라인 사전 접수를 통해 참여할 수 있다.
조윤옥 파주시 기후위기대응과장은 "공릉천과 금촌천은 도심을 연결하는 중요한 생태축"이라며 "시민이 직접 참여하는 이번 활동이 건강한 물 환경 조성의 시작점이 될 것"이라고 말했다.
