[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산대학교가 예술에 재능이 있는 장애학생들을 위한 국내 최초의 국립 부설 예술 중고등 특수학교 건립을 시작했다.
부산대는 17일 오후 교내 대운동장 인근 부지에서 사범대학 부설 예술 중고등 특수학교 기공식을 개최했다. 이날 행사에는 교육부와 부산시, 부산시교육청, 장애인부모연대, 환경단체 관계자들이 참석해 장애학생 전문 예술 교육의 첫걸음을 축하했다.
이번에 설립되는 특수학교는 음악과 미술 분야에 소질이 있는 장애학생을 전국 단위로 모집해 교육하는 특성화 모델이다. 중학교 9학급과 고등학교 12학급 등 총 21학급 규모로 운영되며 정원은 138명이다. 총사업비 474억 원이 투입되는 이 학교는 연면적 14,599㎡에 지하 1층, 지상 4층 규모로 지어지며 2028년 8월 준공을 목표로 한다.
학교 내부에는 전공별 특화 강의실뿐만 아니라 체육관과 기숙사 등 생활 기반 시설이 함께 들어선다. 특히 원거리 통학생을 위한 기숙사 시설을 갖춰 전국 각지의 재능 있는 학생들이 안정적으로 학업과 예술 활동을 병행할 수 있도록 설계됐다.
참석자들은 이번 학교 설립이 장애학생들에게 체계적인 예술 전문 교육과 진로 탐색의 기회를 제공할 것으로 내다봤다. 부산대는 국립대학의 교육 자원을 활용해 장애학생의 숨겨진 재능을 발굴하고 미래 예술인으로 성장할 수 있는 환경을 적극적으로 뒷받침할 계획이다.
최재원 부산대 총장은 이번 기공식이 장애학생들의 예술적 꿈을 실현하는 중요한 전환점이 될 것이라고 평가하며 지역사회와 교육계의 지속적인 관심을 당부했다.

Pusan National University (PNU) has begun construction on the nation's first national affiliated arts middle and high school dedicated to students with disabilities who show talent in the arts.**
The university held a groundbreaking ceremony on the afternoon of the 17th at the construction site near the campus playground. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, PNU, Busan City, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and representatives from the Korea Parents' Network for the Disabled and environmental groups.
This new institution is a specialized national school model that will recruit and select students with artistic talent from across the country. It will offer a systematic curriculum focused on music and fine arts, along with career exploration programs. The school is designed to accommodate 138 students across 21 classes, including nine for middle school and 12 for high school.
With a total project budget of approximately 47.4 billion won, the facility will cover a floor area of 14,599 square meters with one basement level and four floors above ground. The project aims for completion by August 2028.
The campus will feature specialized classrooms for music and arts, as well as a gymnasium for physical activities. Notably, a dormitory will be built to support students traveling from distant regions, ensuring they can balance their academic and artistic pursuits in a stable environment.
Attendees praised the project for providing a long-awaited infrastructure that integrates education with professional arts training for disabled students. PNU plans to leverage its resources as a national university to discover hidden talents and strengthen the career capabilities of its future students.
