또한 그는 지난해 국회를 통과한 이른바 ‘K-스틸법’을 언급하며 “입법적 기반은 마련된 만큼, 이제는 정부의 실질적인 후속 조치가 뒤따라야 한다”고 강조했다.
이어 “철강산업은 자동차, 조선, 방산 등 주요 산업의 기반이 되는 국가 기간산업”이라며 “정부는 철강을 전략 자산으로 인식하고 에너지 정책과 환경 규제 전반에서 산업 경쟁력을 최우선으로 고려해야 한다”고 말했다.
끝으로 이 의원은 “노동계가 먼저 연대의 메시지를 보낸 만큼 정부도 이에 응답해야 한다”며 “국회 차원에서도 정책 이행을 점검하고 산업 경쟁력 강화를 위해 역할을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
