충남 천안시가 남아프리카공화국 현지 경제 네트워크와 손잡고 지역 기업의 아프리카 시장 진출을 위한 교두보 확보에 나섰다.
김석필 천안시장 권한대행 부시장을 단장으로 한 시 대표단은 지난 18일(현지시각) 남아공 케이프타운에서 세계한인경제무역협회(World-OKTA) 케이프타운지회와 수출통상 간담회를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이번 일정은 짐바브웨와 남아공을 잇는 5박 8일간의 순방 중 핵심 경제 행보로, 관내 기업의 판로 다변화를 위한 실질적인 협력 방안이 논의됐다.
천안시와 케이프타운지회는 지난 2016년 체결한 경제협력 업무협약(MOU)을 바탕으로 기존의 상호 교류 수준을 넘어선 고도화된 협력 모델을 구축하기로 뜻을 모았다.
양측은 천안 기업의 아프리카 시장 점유율 확대를 위해 현지 네트워크를 전방위적으로 활용하고, 정기적인 협력 채널을 가동해 수출 유망 품목을 공동 발굴할 계획이다.
특히 이번 간담회에서는 아프리카 현지 시장의 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 무역 지원 프로그램 운영 방안이 중점적으로 다뤄졌다. 시는 글로벌 경제 네트워크와의 결속을 강화해 지역 기업들이 직면한 해외 진출 장벽을 낮추고, 수출 중심의 지역 경제 활성화를 지속해서 추진할 방침이다.
이동욱 세계한인경제무역협회 케이프타운지회장은 천안시와의 협력을 미래지향적으로 확대해 가시적인 수출 성과를 창출할 수 있도록 현지 인프라를 적극 지원하겠다는 의사를 밝혔다.
김석필 권한대행은 이번 간담회가 현지 경제인들과의 신뢰를 공고히 하고 공동 발전을 위한 새로운 동력을 만드는 계기가 됐다고 평가했다. 이어 우리 기업들이 아프리카라는 거대 블루오션에 성공적으로 안착할 수 있도록 탄탄한 토대를 마련하고, 실질적인 수출 성과로 이어지도록 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다고 강조했다.
한편 대표단은 지난 14일 출국해 짐바브웨 하라레시와의 교류 10주년 공식 일정을 마친 뒤 남아공으로 이동해 이 같은 경제 행보를 이어갔으며, 간담회에 앞서 6·25전쟁 참전 기념비를 참배하며 양국의 역사적 유대감을 확인했다.

Acting Mayor Kim Seok-pil assessed that the meeting served as an opportunity to solidify trust with local business leaders and create new momentum for mutual development. He further emphasized that the city would spare no administrative support to lay a solid foundation for Korean companies to successfully settle in the vast blue ocean of Africa and ensure that this leads to substantial export achievements.
