고양특례시가 지난 3월 18일부터 19일까지 대만 가오슝에서 열린 '기후 중립과 스마트시티 실천 커뮤니티(Community of Practice, ComP)' 워크숍에 참가해 탄소중립 선도 도시로서의 면모를 국제 무대에서 알렸다.
이번 워크숍이 열린 'ComP 이니셔티브'는 대만 가오슝과 세계지방정부협의회(이클레이, ICLEI)가 주도하는 글로벌 도시 협력 플랫폼으로, 아시아·태평양 지역 도시들이 스마트도시 기술을 활용한 기후중립 전환 전략을 함께 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

고양시는 지난해 이니셔티브 출범과 동시에 가입해 국내에서는 광명시와 함께 선도적으로 참여해 왔으며, 이번 행사는 가입 후 처음으로 참여하는 오프라인 무대였다.
'가오슝 스마트시티 서밋 및 엑스포'와 연계해 개최된 이번 워크숍에서 고양시는 '지속 가능하고 스마트한 도시 고양'을 주제로 발표에 나섰다.
시는 기후위기 적응을 위한 탄소중립 로드맵과 물관리 정책, 탄소중립지원센터와 연계한 시민 참여 프로그램 및 탄소중립포인트 제도, 스마트시티 인프라 기반의 기후 데이터 관리 체계 등 고양시만의 정책 모델을 공유했다.
특히 시민들이 온실가스 감축에 직접 참여하고 실질적인 혜택을 누리는 시민 중심 기후행동 모델은 아시아 각국 도시 관계자들로부터 높은 관심을 받았다.
행사에는 IPCC(기후변화에 관한 정부 간 협의체) 부의장과 유엔대학교(UNU) 연구진 등 세계적인 전문가들이 참여했다.
