민주평화통일자문회의 고양시협의회가 유럽 주요 거점 도시를 순방하며 한반도 평화통일을 위한 공공외교 외연 확장에 나섰다.
고양시협의회는 지난 3월 17일(현지시간) 프랑스 파리 콩코드광장에서 남유럽협의회 프랑스지회와 간담회를 열고, 현지 공공외교 활동 현황을 공유하는 한편 상호 교류 확대를 위한 협력 방안을 논의했다.
양측은 이번 만남을 계기로 일회성 교류를 넘어 지속적인 협력 네트워크를 구축하기로 뜻을 모았으며, 오는 4월 한국에서 정식 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하기로 합의했다.

이에 앞서 방문단은 3월 15일 네덜란드 헤이그에 위치한 이준열사기념관을 찾아 대한제국 특사로 만국평화회의에 참석했던 이준 열사의 애국정신을 기렸다.
이날 방문은 한반도 평화의 의미를 되새기고 역사적 가치를 공유하기 위해 마련됐다.
기념관 측은 휴관일임에도 불구하고 고양시협의회 방문단 19명을 위해 특별 개관을 진행했으며, 방문 인원수에 맞춰 19송이의 튤립을 준비하는 등 이례적인 환대를 제공했다.
이는 기념관 개관 이후 처음 있는 사례로 알려져 방문의 의미를 더했다.
김성주 협의회장은 “이준 열사의 숭고한 뜻이 깃든 현장에서 평화와 통일의 가치를 다시금 절감했다”며 “프랑스지회 등 유럽 지역과의 교류를 확대해 한반도 평화통일에 대한 국제적 공감대를 이끌어내는 공공외교 활동을 지속하겠다”고 밝혔다.

이번 유럽 순방은 3월 11일부터 19일까지 진행됐으며, 독일, 네덜란드, 벨기에, 프랑스 등 4개국을 잇는 일정으로 추진됐다.
협의회는 독일 베를린 훔볼트대학교에서 북유럽협의회와 업무협약을 체결하고, 네덜란드 헤이그에서는 이준열사기념관 참배를 통해 평화 정신을 되새겼으며, 프랑스 파리에서는 남유럽협의회 프랑스지회와의 간담회를 통해 교류 기반을 확대했다.
고양시협의회는 이번 연수를 통해 해외 자문위원들과의 결속을 강화하고, 유럽 현지 사회를 대상으로 한반도 통일 정책에 대한 이해를 높이는 등 공공외교의 실질적 성과를 거둔 것으로 평가받고 있다.

On March 17 (local time), the Goyang City Council held a meeting with the French Chapter of the Southern Europe Council at Place de la Concorde in Paris. During the meeting, they shared the current status of local public diplomacy activities and discussed cooperation measures to expand mutual exchanges.
Taking this meeting as an opportunity, both sides agreed to build a sustainable cooperation network beyond one-off exchanges and agreed to sign a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Korea this coming April.
