[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 양산시가 지역 핵심 가야유적인 양산 다방동 유적의 4차 발굴조사에 본격적으로 착수한다고 23일 밝혔다.
이번 조사는 국가유산청의 ‘2026년 역사문화권 중요유적 발굴조사 국고보조사업’에 선정됨에 따라 그간 1~3차 조사를 통해 입증된 학술적 성과를 바탕으로 국가 예산을 지원받아 진행되며 유적의 전모를 밝히는 중요한 단계가 될 것으로 보인다.
안다방 마을에 위치한 양산 다방동 유적은 낙동강과 남해안에서 경주로 향하는 육로를 조망할 수 있는 가야의 전략적 요충지이다.
지난 조사를 통해 청동기시대부터 가야 전기까지에 걸친 이중 환호, 망루, 광장 및 온돌시설을 갖춘 20여동 이상의 주거지가 확인돼 양산 고대 정치체의 실체가 드러난 바 있다.
이번 4차 발굴조사는 최근 국가유산청으로부터 발굴허가를 취득함에 따라경남연구원 경남학센터에서 수행하며 다방동 249번지 일원을 대상으로 진행된다.
이번 조사는 유적 정상부에서 남쪽으로 이어지는 사면부를 집중적으로 조사해 취락의 남쪽 경계 범위를 명확히 확정하고 주거지와 관련된 생활 유구의 분포 양상을 정밀하게 파악하는 데 주력할 방침이다.
양산시는 조사 과정에서 유구 보호와 출토 유물에 대한 보호 조치를 철저히 하고 발굴이 완료되는 시점에 맞추어 시민과 학계에 성과를 공유하는 학술자문회의 및 현장공개회를 개최할 계획이다.
아울러 양산시는 발굴조사 성과와 연계해 오는 8월 다방동 유적의 역사적 성격과 가치를 학술적으로 검토하기 위해 ‘학술대회’를 개최할 예정이다.
이번 학술대회는 다방동 유적의 고고학적 위상을 정립하고 관련 분야 전문가들의 심도 있는 논의를 통해 유적의 학술적 가치를 공유하는 자리가 될 것으로 기대된다.
양산시 관계자는 “이번 4차 발굴조사는 국비 지원을 통해 다방동 유적의 전체적인 구조를 파악하는 중요한 과정”이라며 “철저한 발굴조사와 하반기 학술대회 개최를 통해 우리 시의 소중한 가야유산에 대한 학술연구 성과를 축적하고 체계적인 보존 관리 대책 마련에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
