[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 함양군은 고령 농업인의 소득 증대와 지역 가공산업 활성화를 위해 올해도 '늙은호박 수매'를 추진한다고 24일 밝혔다.
늙은호박 수매는 유휴 경작지를 활용한 틈새 작목 육성을 통해 고령 농업인의 소득 창출을 돕기 위해 2023년부터 추진해 오고 있으며 오는 11월 함양군농협조합공동사업법인을 통해 각 지역농협 판매장에서 약 100톤을 수매할 계획이다.
올해로 4년 차를 맞은 늙은호박 수매는 지역 농가와 가공업체가 상생하는 선순환구조를 구축해 지역경제에 활기를 불어넣고 있다.
수매한 호박은 관내 다류 가공업체인 '허브앤티'에서 전량 매입해 호박차로 가공한 뒤 국내외 시장에 판매될 예정이다.
이번 수매는 고품질 가공 원료 확보를 위해 잘 익고 건조된 맷돌호박을 대상으로 수매하며 저장성이 떨어지는 미숙과는 수매 대상에서 제외되므로 농가의 세심한 선별 노력이 요구된다.
수매가는 5kg 이상 상품 기준 kg당 1000원이며 5kg 미만은 500원이다.
특히 군은 특정 농가의 물량 쏠림을 방지하고 최대한 많은 농업인이 참여할 수 있도록 농가당 최대 수매량을 3톤으로 제한하는 등 수매의 형평성과 공정성을 높였다.
군 관계자는 "늙은호박은 비교적 적은 노동력으로 재배할 수 있어 고령 농업인에게 실질적 소득 제공하는 '효자 작목'으로 주목받고 있다"라며 "앞으로도 단순한 원물 수매에 그치지 않고 지역 농산물을 활용한 고부가가치 상품 생산을 통해 함양 호박의 가치를 전국적으로 높여 나가겠다"라고 말했다.
