파주시는 오는 24일을 ‘체납차량 번호판 영치 일제 단속의 날’로 정하고, 지방세와 과태료를 체납한 차량에 대한 집중 단속을 실시한다고 23일 밝혔다.

이번 단속은 경기도 내 시·군과 파주시 차량등록사업소, 파주경찰서가 합동으로 진행하며, 체납 근절과 성실 납세 분위기 조성을 목표로 추진되며 영치 대상은 자동차세 3건 이상 체납 차량 또는 검사 지연, 주정차 위반, 책임보험 미가입 등 차량 관련 과태료를 30만 원 이상 체납한 차량이다. 단속에 적발될 경우 즉시 번호판이 영치된다.
번호판이 영치된 차량 소유자는 체납액을 완납하면 번호판을 돌려받을 수 있으나 하지만 일정 기간 내 찾아가지 않으면 인도명령, 강제 견인, 공매 처분 등 강력한 체납처분 절차가 진행된다.
특히 3회 이상 상습 체납 차량은 자치단체 간 징수 협조에 따라 전국 어디서나 번호판 영치가 가능하다.
