박대기 예비후보는 지난 22일 지지자와 도시개발 전문가들과 함께 포항 원도심 일대 약 5km 구간을 도보로 점검하며 ‘원도심 프로젝트 : 오감만족 포항’ 종합개발계획을 발표했다. 죽도 대밭거리에서 구 포항역, 중앙상가, 육거리, 죽도시장, 포항운하로 이어지는 구간을 직접 걸으며 현장 의견을 반영한 마스터플랜을 제시했다.
이 계획은 죽도·용흥·대신·남빈·동빈·해도·송도 일대를 연계 개발해 관광과 도시재생을 결합한 핵심 거점으로 조성하는 것이 골자다. 구 포항역 부지에는 ‘포항광장’과 철강 이미지를 반영한 ‘스틸타워’를 건립하고, 중앙상가 일대에는 로봇 스트리트와 도시형 미술관을 조성하는 방안이 포함됐다. 또 죽도시장 주차장 확충과 공연 공간 마련, 포항운하 일대 해양체험시설 및 아쿠아리움 조성 계획도 제시됐다.
박대기 예비후보는 “현장을 직접 걸으며 시민과 전문가 의견을 반영해 실현 가능한 계획을 마련했다”며 “원도심 르네상스를 통해 포항을 전국적인 관광도시로 도약시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

박용선 예비후보는 지역 내 사회단체의 분산 운영 문제를 해소하기 위한 ‘사회단체 통합지원센터’ 구축 공약을 발표했다. 현재 포항에는 새마을회, 바르게살기운동협의회, 한국자유총연맹, 청년단체 등 다양한 단체가 개별적으로 사무실을 임차해 활동하고 있다.
이로 인해 운영 효율성이 떨어지고 회의·교육·행사 공간 확보에 어려움을 겪는 사례가 많으며, 보조금 정산 등 행정 역량에서도 단체별 편차가 크다는 지적이 제기돼 왔다.
박 예비후보는 건물 신축 또는 유휴시설 리모델링을 통해 통합 공간을 조성하고, 사무공간과 공용 회의실, 교육장, 커뮤니티 시설 등을 제공하겠다고 밝혔다. 아울러 회계·정산 지원, 협업 프로젝트 운영, 역량 강화 교육 등 행정·프로그램 지원도 병행할 방침이다.
그는 “단체 간 소통 부족으로 사업 중복과 비효율이 발생해왔다”며 “통합지원센터를 통해 협력 기반을 강화하고 지역사회 문제 대응력을 높이겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “해외 사회혁신센터와 국내 공익활동지원센터 사례를 접목해 실질적인 협력 플랫폼으로 구축하겠다”고 밝혔다.
지역 정치권에서는 두 후보가 각각 도시재생과 지역사회 인프라 개선을 앞세워 정책 차별화에 나서면서 경선 경쟁이 한층 치열해지고 있다는 분석이 나온다.
