파주시가 경제자유구역 지정을 위한 핵심 성장 동력으로 '바이오산업'을 선택하고, 국제적 협력 기반 마련에 본격 나선다.
파주시는 오는 4월 2일 오후 2시, 서울 중구 한국프레스센터 국제회의장에서 '2026 파주 경제자유구역 바이오 컨퍼런스' 를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
파주시가 주최하고 한국제약바이오협회가 후원하는 이번 행사는 현재 시가 추진 중인 경제자유구역의 핵심 전략 산업인 바이오 분야에서 국제적 네트워크를 강화하고, 실질적인 투자 유치 가능성을 타진하기 위해 기획됐다.

이번 컨퍼런스에는 국내 바이오 기업과 연구기관, 투자자 등 관련 산업 종사자 250여 명이 참석할 것으로 예상되는 가운데, 기조강연에는 세계적 석학들이 대거 연단에 선다.
마이클 림 스탠퍼드 의과대학 신경외과학과 교수(학과장) 를 비롯해 김재경 한국과학기술연구원(KIST) 교수, 이상민 포항공과대학교 교수 등이 바이오산업의 최신 기술 동향과 미래 발전 방향을 제시할 예정이다.
강연 이후에는 '제약·바이오 산업과 인공지능(AI) 융합의 현재와 미래' 를 주제로 심층 토론이 펼쳐진다.
산학연 전문가들이 한자리에 모여 기술 혁신 방향과 국제 협력 전략을 논의하며, 행사장 내에 별도 마련된 업무 협력망 형성 프로그램을 통해 기업 간 교류 및 투자사와의 파트너십 기회도 제공된다.
파주시 관계자는 "이번 행사는 국제 바이오산업의 흐름을 공유하고 협력 기반을 넓히는 의미 있는 자리가 될 것"이라며, "바이오 생태계 조성과 적극적인 투자 유치를 통해 파주 경제자유구역을 첨단 산업의 새로운 성장 거점으로 육성하겠다"고 밝혔다.
한편 파주시는 지난해 4월 경기경제자유구역 추가 지정 후보지로 선정된 데 이어, 올해 중으로 요건을 갖춰 산업통상자원부에 경제자유구역 최종 지정을 신청할 계획이다.
