이재명 대통령이 26일 "전기 사용 관련해 조금 특별한 말씀을 드려야될 것 같다"며 "전기 사용 절감에 협조해주길 당부한다"고 했다.
이 대통령은 이날 오전 청와대에서 열린 제2차 비상경제점검 회의 모두 발언에서 "전기는 한국전력공사가 완전 독점 공급하고 있는데 반대로 말하면 정부가 100% 책임지고 있는 구조"라며 "전기 요금은 웬만하면 지금 변경 않고 유지하려 한다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "그런데 전기 요금을 계속 이대로 유지할 시 손실 즉 적자 폭이 엄청나게 늘어날 수 있다"며 "한편 전기 요금을 과거 그대로 묶어두니 전기 사용이 오히려 늘어나거나 유류 대신 전기를 쓰는 상황이 발생할 것"이라고 했다.
또 "그런 상황 발생 시 손실이 기하급수적으로 늘어날 수 있다"며 "정부 재정 손실도 문제며 과도한 에너지 낭비 문제가 생길 수 있다"고 했다.
이어 "지금 한전 적자가 200조라는데 쉽지 않은 상황"이라며 "국민들도 그 점을 고려해 에너지 절감 특히 전기 사용 줄이기에 많이 참여해주길 부탁한다"고 했다.
